Tali HAS to return as a character in your squad, especially if you romance her. She is the Aerie, as I said somewhere else, of ME 2. In other words, the "good" romance option.
No it's pretty clear that Liara is the Aerie of ME2. Though to be perfectly honest, everything they changed about her in ME2 makes absolutely no sense at all considering her character and background.
It's only been 2 freaking years, all the changes they put her through could not have changed in that time frame. As soon as I sat down to talk with her she should have kissed me and we both should have up and left to go on our grand crusade to save the galaxy.
I don't think Bioware had a good grasp on time when making ME2, everyone went through massive changes, had a great deal happen to them even though it's only been 2 fricking years. Not to mention the combat was completely ruined, I loved the old system, hate the new one.

I think a lot of people having gripes about Liara changing in just two years need to recognize that two years is kind of a long time for anyone. The fact that Asari live for a long time does not in anyway make time move faster or slower... they just experience MORE of it. Add that to the fact that Liara is herself very young for an Asari and you've got yourself some of that there major character development. It sucked seeing her all cold, but she's really not. If you talked to her and said the right things you can see that she's got relatively good intentions...

Still waiting for the inevitable Tali LOVE
Talking about that, can anyone give me links to the "Tali romance" thread/s in the non-spoiler / spoiler sections? You know the ones, the last one was the "Tali Romance - Quarian even harder" thread. Not having a search function is *so* annoying, I hope Bioware changes that soon...
And, yeah, Tali is the best and most sympathic character in ME2, without a doubt. Although Mordin is coming in a close second, due to a factor of awesomeness otherwhere not seen in video games. He kinda reminds me of Kang the Mad from Jade Empire. With a bit less love of explosions, though. ^^

Easiest and probably the best way (even if they do implement a search) is to go to Google, and type in your search phrase. Then, add the following line: site:social.bioware.com/forum/1/category/105/index

I agree that she is one of, if not THE most well-written and well-acted videogame characters in all of gamedom. I liked her character in ME1 and, although I thought the idea was intriguing, I wasn't really one of the people clamoring for a Tali relationship. I probably would have had one save with her as the romance if the option had been there in ME1, but I was relatively happy with Liara.
When we started getting into it in ME2, though, I just couldn't resist. The acting was so good, and the moments were so genuine. The way Tali's voice sounded when we were just kicking off the romance -- she was so shy, and surprised, and excited at the same time -- made me relive the feeling I got in 6th grade the first time I found out that a girl I liked liked me too. Then she started acting all sexy and I was done for! The anticipation of getting to see Tali out of her suit and look her in the eye was almost too much. Needless to say, the end scene was a bittersweet moment for me
I'm over it, though -- that is fine, as long as they show her in ME3 at some point. I have to say, I must disagree about the idea of never showing Tali's face; the mysteriousness of Tali's ever-present helmet was nice, and it works to make her alluring and as a device to signify the trust that she places in Shepherd, not to mention the idea of "blind love". But once the romance has blossomed, and the relationship consummated, Tali's ever-present visor looses that function. It is no longer about getting her to trust you, or about having feelings despite the limitations, it is just an obsticle that doesn't need to be there between the player and the romantic interest. It feels like cheating the player somehow. Even if it is a climactic event, even if they wait till the next game to do it, I think it has to be done for those of us who choose to stay loyal to her.
Hell, maybe they could just make her look like her voice, Liz Sroka. Holy smokes

She does have good intentions, but it seems to me that it simply destroyed her in the process.

Yeah even when staying loyal to Ash (still trying to anyway) I feel guilty because she likes shepard, not the creepy liara stalking way either...I actually felt bad for not choosing her, never had that feeling from other characters, rushed a single ME1 character out just to romance her.Lord Atlia wrote...
One thing that went through my mind when reflecting on ME2 is that Tali has a crush on Shepard regardless of circumstances, like the geeky girl who has a crush on the big man on campus, she wants to romance Shepard but is afraid of being heartbroken. This is why I use a single Shepard, imagine what went through her mind the night before Ilos or if Shepard picked someone else in ME2, her heart would be aching inside, it is almost too sad to comprehend. I went into ME2 planning to romance everyone (over multiple play throughs of course, my Shepard is not a jerk) but I came to the conclusion that Tali deserves Shepard.

I also took Tali for the final confrontation, since I thought that everyone left to cover us would die, but when I saw her under that big pile of rubble I was like,
But yeah, Tali is the greatest! She better have a big role in the final game!

Just so we're all clear, I killed Ashley in my ME1 import. I always felt that she was annoying, bigoted and closed-minded. As far as Liara goes, I'm neutral about her, but Bioware must take this sort of thing into account when figuring out how to port ME2 romances into ME3. I'm probably not the only one who has done this. I am Legion, for we are many.

That made the romance better imo. That she suffered with a broken heart for 2+ years but didn't let it destroy her as a person makes her all the more stronger and makes her finally getting the man she wanted that much better. The best victories are the one's that don't come easy and the two of them coming together in a relationship that is pretty much built on unconditional love is awesome.

Well, it helped, although the last string wasn't necessary. Seems like no one has opened a new "Tali Romance" thread on the spoiler forum, or the forum is getting so swamped that it falls from the first pages too fast to get noticed.
Well, at least I found the Tali social group.
Thanks anyway for the idea!

Her journey is emotional and dramatic. Her story arc is pitch-perfect. She is a character that can be so gentle, loving, and feminine, yet also so intelligent, passionate, and strong as well.
There are so many things she says in this game that just linger with me. Even if you don't pursue her, it's so very apparent she loves you and would die for you (while ME1 "love interests" can't be bothered to listen to reason or drop their work, while Tali puts you first). She's just infinitely compelling and she's really put through the ringer. The way she vents out her frustrations about how we take for granted simple things smelling a flower, her fears about forsaking her people contrasted against her undying loyalty to Shepard, the way she risks her very life to be intimate with you, the selfless attitude she has where she'd rather be exiled than disgrace her father's name, the way she comments that she always wanted, but never expected, Shepard to see past her mask...
... she is without a doubt the most well done, developed, complex, interesting, charismatic, and exciting character to follow.
Which brings up two points. 1) she must be in Mass Effect 3. She's so intrinsically apart of the story and Shepard's life not to be included front and center with the others, and 2) Bioware has their work cut out for them giving her a story arc as exciting, fresh, dramatic, and satisfying as the one we've got in ME2. It was pitch-perfect, she was perfect, and measuring up to that could prove very difficult... but exciting nonetheless.
So, bravo Bioware. You've created one of the most inherently likable and beloved characters in the medium... and you never even see her face, proving without a shadow of a doubt that strong writing, nuanced voice acting, and superb characterization can be just as attractive, if not more so, than modeling a character off Yvonne Strahovski.
Tali's story defined Mass Effect 2 for me and served as the highlights of an already fantastic game.
