Yikes.
Her mother seems like a sweetheard by comparison and she was working with a traitor who was helping the Reapers.

did anyone else notice she used the same lines about asari commandos as her mother with the same icy tone? i was kind of creep-ed out by that.
Yes, I did. It was chilling.

Believe me. It's worth it. There's a reason — well, several, really — for that hard shell.

She's not cold. She's not a *****.
You're missing the end of her quest when she breaks down, and admits everything to you. Ask her where her anger is coming from, and why she didn't tell you earlier. You'll see.

How many times on this forum can it be explained word for word EXACTLY what is going on with Liara?

100% agree. We have multiple topics about her with a few of us actually pointing people in the right direction to go with her conversation. Still they either neglect the topics, or barely read them and skip over where we explain about her situation.
I was like that at first too because that option is so easily missed, but getting it was so worth it and made me feel much better.

You guys really need to talk to her again. Or read the thread regarding disappointing ME1 reunions. You've got it all wrong.
Bioware sure did all they could to make Liara appear like a completely different person for most players.
They went out of their way to make the ME1 love interest cameos unsatisfying and offputting.
Many players, not only on these forums, are questioning the characterization and apparent personality change of Liara, and Ash being so angry and storming off, leaving you suck the dust of Horizon.
Is there a method to Bioware's madness here?

I want to agree so bad! ....... but....... but......... why hide such an important cutscene behind two lackluster fetching missions, and two use-it-or-lose-it dialog wheel choices? It's almost like they didn't want players to see it. I can't deny that Liara's last cutscene is written exceptionally well. but why make it so hard to get?
Me no understand.

And like all good storytelling, it's true to life.
I realize I just made a true-to-life comparison in a space opera and that my thumbnail here is a giant toad, but ...
You've got to show some committment and persistance to get the one you want here. That may be the only realistic thing in the game, but it's very realistic.

Men are from Mars. Women are from Venus.
I never read the book but the title tells it all.
OK. That was flippant. I'm at work now but will give my two cents later.

I'm just starting up the game. Was anyone able to get the relationship discussion I've heard of? Now that I know how to get her to open up, I wonder if you also get to discuss the relationship.
Oh yeah, getting there is no problem once you know how. There's not much discussion, but thats because everything comes out.

I respectfully disagree. A lot of people weren't expecting these kinds of reactions, especially considering how Tali, Garrus, Joker, and Doctor Chakwas treat you. Even with them, the initial meetings with Tali and Garrus are emotionally barren. "Hi there, long time no see, was dead for a while, now better, lets spill some merc blood!".
What Ash and Kaidan get is almost insulting, a cameo comparable to that of some NPC like Shiala or Helena Blake. And Liara is frankly acting as if possessed. You can supposedly reach the "real" Liara, by lucking out the correct convo option, but only a few people seem to have found it, considering the amount of posts about the "cold Liara" of ME2.
Why did the devs go out of their way to make the ME1 love interest so cold and unappealing?

I'm pretty sure that's only if you romanced her in the first game. I did her quest and did not get so much as a slight explanation and was kind of disappointed since her character change seemed drastic from the first game. =/ratzerman wrote...

I see what you're saying and I understand that that's what you got from it.
For me I found the love interest reunion scenes kind of brutal and emotional in a very satisfying way though. Then again, I'm a sucker for angst.

Huge SPOILER WARNING. I know they are allowed, but some folks still want to know how to talk to Liari and see for themselves.
Mox Ruuga. that’s a fair question. This is an attempt to answer it, not some sort of challenge:
Liara assumed massive debt, risked life and limb, had a friend and ally captured and probably tortured and killed all to recover your dead body. She then turned it over to your enemies, Cerberus, in the longshot hope they could bring you back to life. She's afraid you woke up and found yourself their captive and now hate her for that. She also has no idea what they did to you once they revived you. Consider Cerberus' past history. Finally, remember the destruction of the Normandy: The last time she saw you, you were ordering her to leave you behind. The survivor’s guilt is the big trunk in a whole load of emotional baggage this woman’s carrying.
On top of all that — assuming she believes it’s really you, not some imitation Cerberus made after burning your corpse — what do you do when you’re basically an intelligence operative and somebody from Cerberus walks through your door, asking questions? Even if it is really you, how does coming back from the dead change a man? Can she even get the image of your cold corpse out of her mind when she looks at you?
Frankly, I never liked Ashley but people I respect do. I'll let them defend her.

I guess that's my cue.
Here's what I got from Ash. You have to infer some things with all of these characters and not just take what they say and do at face value.
Ash hears a rumor you're still alive. If you're alive, it means that you have NEVER contacted her in all of that time (she has no idea you were on a slab for two years. For all she knows you've been up and about the whole time). Now I don't know about you, but that would hurt me. A lot. And make me angry. And make me question everything we had.
Add to that the rumor and then eventual fact that you're working with Cerberus. Well now Ash is thinking "WHO IS THIS GUY?! This isn't the Shepard I knew! What. The. Hell." So she's even more angry. And she's also disappointed in you because she doesn't know the whole story.
And forget trying to explain to her the whole story. She is BARELY keeping her emotions in check as it is. She's not about to listen to reason from you right now. She makes some valid points about not trusting Cerberus and warning Shepard to watch his back. And she wants to trust him, she really does, but what reason does she have to right now? None.
Plus! No matter how much she mentally prepared herself for if she saw him again, when she sees him she's going to remember how much she loved him.
She obviously immediately regrets how she handled the situation on Horizon, hence the email - the only way she knows to get in contact with him. And I think the gist of the message, when you cut through it all is basically "I still love you."
So yeah. I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing her again.
