Frankly, I never liked Ashley but people I respect do. I'll let them defend her.
I guess that's my cue.
Yep. You're welcome.

Can anybody confirm or deny this? Does she only admit not being able to "let you go" to those who romanced her?DK_DOOM wrote...
I'm pretty sure that's only if you romanced her in the first game. I did her quest and did not get so much as a slight explanation and was kind of disappointed since her character change seemed drastic from the first game. =/ratzerman wrote...
You people are killing me. Is this what the next two years are going to be like?
She's not cold. She's not a *****.
You're missing the end of her quest when she breaks down, and admits everything to you. Ask her where her anger is coming from, and why she didn't tell you earlier. You'll see.

Also.... Liara physically saw Shepard's body? His/her cold dead body?

I'll let you know tonight after I do her assignments. But the friendly, warm hug she gave me did not go unnoticed. I'm hoping the "I couldn't let you go" dialogue is strictly for the romance Sheps, but it will be nice if she explains everything to me anyway.

You know..... I'd almost rather have the hug. The kiss is very awkward. Shep tries to prolong it, but she stops you. I thought maybe it was because I had Miranda in my squad at the time. But I guess she still shuts you down regardless of who you bring with you.

Yes. It's called good storytelling.
I respectfully disagree. A lot of people weren't expecting these kinds of reactions, especially considering how Tali, Garrus, Joker, and Doctor Chakwas treat you. Even with them, the initial meetings with Tali and Garrus are emotionally barren. "Hi there, long time no see, was dead for a while, now better, lets spill some merc blood!".
What Ash and Kaidan get is almost insulting, a cameo comparable to that of some NPC like Shiala or Helena Blake. And Liara is frankly acting as if possessed. You can supposedly reach the "real" Liara, by lucking out the correct convo option, but only a few people seem to have found it, considering the amount of posts about the "cold Liara" of ME2.
Why did the devs go out of their way to make the ME1 love interest so cold and unappealing?
Huge SPOILER WARNING. I know they are allowed, but some folks still want to know how to talk to Liari and see for themselves.
Mox Ruuga. that’s a fair question. This is an attempt to answer it, not some sort of challenge:
Liara assumed massive debt, risked life and limb, had a friend and ally captured and probably tortured and killed all to recover your dead body. She then turned it over to your enemies, Cerberus, in the longshot hope they could bring you back to life. She's afraid you woke up and found yourself their captive and now hate her for that. She also has no idea what they did to you once they revived you. Consider Cerberus' past history. Finally, remember the destruction of the Normandy: The last time she saw you, you were ordering her to leave you behind. The survivor’s guilt is the big trunk in a whole load of emotional baggage this woman’s carrying.
On top of all that — assuming she believes it’s really you, not some imitation Cerberus made after burning your corpse — what do you do when you’re basically an intelligence operative and somebody from Cerberus walks through your door, asking questions? Even if it is really you, how does coming back from the dead change a man? Can she even get the image of your cold corpse out of her mind when she looks at you?
Frankly, I never liked Ashley but people I respect do. I'll let them defend her.
It's pretty obvious to me, they want to give you the option to NOT feel guilty about bedding Miranda or Tali....the best way to do that is to make your ME1 LI give you the cold shoulder (Visa versa for FemShep with Jacob or Thane). I suspect how you handle all of this will somehow have ripple effect in ME3 as well.Mox Ruuga wrote...

I don't know that for a fact. All I know for sure is that she moved heaven and earth to find it. How could she know she got the real article if she never looked at it?

Yeah she shuts you out there regardless. I brought Garrus and Tali with me hoping for some additional dialogue between the 4 of us but she completely ignored them.

Thanks for those kind words, DarchAngelDavid.
Got a very serious question here too: If your LI was Ashley, is she the one you have to order into the escape pod when the Normandy I goes down, or is it always Liara in that scene?

Thanks for the quick replies.
izmirtheastarach, we're talking about Liari T'Soni, the Asari love interest from the first game. She's on Illyrim in ME2.

Yes, I was making a jab at the fact that the title post says "laria". And it's Illium.
