I am having 2 issues that are a big problem for me with Mass Effect 2 (PC CE).

A lot of the dialague cuts off before the characters finish what they are saying. It's very annoying and I've had to turn on subtitles just so I don't miss anything.

Another problem is that randomly, I get black lines over my screen (horizontal, vertical, diagnal.. whatever..) and it's become a major annoyance. I've tried playing on high, mid, and low settings and it still seems to happen. They just sort of pop up and go away randomly.  I've even tried 3 different monitors of varying sizes (2 widescreen 1 standard) and different DVI wires to see if it might be that.

Here is a list of specs with all drivers up to date.
If you know of anything that could be causing this, or any way to fix it, please let me know! Thank you.

Specs:
Windows 7 64-bit
Intel core2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
6.00GB RAM
MSI ATI Radeon HD 4850
Abit IP35 Pro Motherboard
Creative Audigy SE sound blaster sound card

I am having audio problems where some lines are cut off and the voice audio is too low compared to the music and sound effects?

yeah, i think a lot of people have some sync issues.. but I haven't really read about dialogue being cut-off... or my other problem.

I totally lose sound periodically, and I too have to have subtitles. I even have times where my computer crashes. I am also on the "sound issue" thread and none of the suggestions work. I am waiting for someone from Bioware to say something.

hopefully this will be patched soon. Wasnt ther an issue with dialogue cutting off early in ME1 too?

I have the cut off dialogue, all files 1-2 seconds short, it also results in bad out of sync in longer sequences like the opening cut scenes. Basically makes the gameplay unplayable for me.

I think the game is still playable, but the cut-offs and out of sync voice acting has really just ruined the immersion/experience for me, I've stopped playing and am waiting to see if the first patch fixes it... after that, i'm not sure.

Besides waiting for a patch, make sure your drivers are up to date, or play around with your sound and speaker settings in the configure section. I messed around with mine a little and now my my problems don't happen that much. When they start to become more frequent I exit the game and come back. I have made it manageable to play. I still hope that when the Patch comes put it fixes the sound problem because I would like to turn of the subtitles and hear the wonder that is ME 2.

I think the black lines are an ATI driver problem.  I've noticed them as well, not just in ME 2 but also ME1 and Unreal Tournament 3.  I've also had video glitching in Fallout 3 and Oblivion and it all seemed to start after upgrading to the 9.12 drivers.  I'vealso tried the 9.12 hotfix and 10.1 and 10.1 hotfix.  I suspect the problem may go away if I downgrade to 9.10 ot 9.11 but I haven't tried it yet.  I keep hoping that ATI will fix whatever it is in the next set of drivers. BTW I've got a 4850 as well.

AH Ok. Yeah I just noticed it in ME1 too (went to finish an old game for ME2). Was worried it might be the ati drivers but haven't been able to find anything about it.... only other game I've played lately is DA:O and it didn't happen.. will try FO3 and oblivion.. see what happens.... thanks for the info.

Yeah, the games I've mentioned are the only ones that seem to be affected - every other game I have, including DAO, don't suffer from the video glitches. It is very annoying and unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem.  Apart from your post and another post on the Fallout 3 forums, I've seen no one else mention that they're suffering from the same issue.

OK. Finally bit the bullet and downgraded to the 9.10 drivers. Black lines are gone and according to posts on the ATI forums several users with HD 4850 cards are experiencing this issue with various games. Hopefully ATI will fix this in a future driver revision, but until then I'm sticking with the 9.10 drivers.

Sorry for digging out the old thread, but I finally found a solution for the dialogue issues after even the EA customer service didn't know anything further to do, here's what I did:

Deactivate "EPU Six-Engine" :-)
That should be all.

Since nobody could help me since the release of ME2, I think it is justified to answer this late :-).

Edit: It seems to work fine with Vista, even with the "Six-Engine" installed.

Sorry, this is not the answer. I don't have an Asus motherboard, and EPU Six-Engine does not exist on my machine, but I still have the issue with truncated dialogues.

Maybe another programm which accelerates something? I'm sorry, but this is how it worked for me.

No accelerators at all. I'm playing ME2 on a Mac Pro. Maybe it's too fast itself.

Don Moar created a sticky thread about this issue after this thread was created. I recommend you post your questions and solutions there: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/106/index/1501945/1
