When I save the game, manualy or by an autosave and it's all fine. But when I go to Load page it's just empty. Also it doesn't show me my imported chara, even though when Miranda and Jacob asks me while getting off the Cerberus lab about my choices about letting Kaidan (remember the choice Ashley or Kaidan?) die in ME1. I've got Vista x64 and my doc files and OS are installed on :C. I've reinstalled game once, it didn't work. What's wrong? This is my loading screen. It's just empty!  :crying: http://img94.imagesh.../5104/me2ca.jpg

I have the same problem. I do have my documents on another drive/partition. I also tried copying the my documents folder to where it normally is (only the bioware folder) and that didn't work. At least I can resume the game, but I can't change characters or go back to a previous save.

I also played with the config for loading ME1 character. I had a feeling it was looking there when trying to load my ME2 characters, but I redirected it back to normal save location and that didn't work either.

I hope someone figures this out and/or a patch is released... *crosses fingers*

Ok, so I've figured out that i don't even have freakin' Save folder in C:Program files (x64)/ Mass Effect 2 , so I accidentaly checked my another disc :E and it was there! Even though I moved the save files to C:Program files and so on, the game didn't see the saves. Saves where in E:/BioWare/Mass Effect 2/Save. Shouldn't be there a subfolder with my character name or something? Ah, and also interesting. I can play by F5, F9 with quicksaves but I accidentaly saved when Shepard got floating bug. When i save manualy the game shows me my saved games and I can overwrite them, but when I go to Load Screen it's empty, and I can't even select another character. Please, help meh! :<

Perhaps something got broken during localization for your territory. I'd try copying/moving the saves to your documents folder (where if windows is installed to the c: drive):
C:\\\\\\\\Users\\\\\\\\userName\\\\\\\\Documents\\\\\\\\BioWare\\\\\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\\\\\BIOGame\\\\\\\\Save
Where userName is your windows account name. Check if the game will see your saved games.

You might be able to workaround this problem by editing your "GamerSettings.ini" file. If it's like the US version it should be in your documents folder also.
C:\\\\\\\\Users\\\\\\\\userName\\\\\\\\Documents\\\\\\\\BioWare\\\\\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\\\\\BIOGame\\\\\\\\Config
At the [SaveGames] section change the location to:
Location=C:\\\\\\\\Users\\\\\\\\userName\\\\\\\\Documents\\\\\\\\BioWare\\\\\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\\\\\BIOGame\\\\\\\\Save

Bah, ignore the extra \\\\'s the forum doubles them.

Tried both ways, not working. I think I'll reinstall my system or switch to 7/XP, then see if it's wrong only with my game.

Same problem here, no idea why, im running windows 7 and have uninstalled and reinstalled on the C drive but still not working, is it possible this is because of imported characters? Is anyone having this problem with new characters?

The game cannot save if "Documents" or "My Documents" is the root of a drive. Don't ask why, I don't know.

It seems to be a common problem, though. Dragon Age has it as well.

I'm having the same problem. I'm running Windows 7 and My Documents is currently its own partition on my drive, but I've never had a similar problem with DA:O, either with 7 or with the same setup in XP. Is there any way to change the location of the folder without screwing up everything that saves to it?

Well, I just tried changing the location of My Documents to a folder inside the partition instead of the partition itself, and then to a folder inside that one, and my careers and saves are still invisible. I guess the problem has something to do with the folder being on a different partition from the game?

Yes, that's it, Trylane! That solved my problem.

I just changed the location of "My Documents" to "D:\\Documents" (it used to be just "D:\\") and changed the SaveGames Location in my GamerSettings.ini to the new path. And everything works fine now: I can save and load my game and all game settings are saved as well.

Thank you!

I guess my problem is slightly different because it's just not working for me. Tried reinstalling a couple times after changing the My Documents directory, but still no luck.

Things that worked for me -

Create a folder in "BioWare/Mass Effect 2/Save" and name it after your character's first name. My profile and saves all worked fine after this.

When it comes to keeping game settings and achievements being saved, I tried everything suggested in various threads re: moving default location of My Documents etc without any success. Here's what worked for me: The game is supposed to create a "Profile" folder within "Docs/BioWare/Mass Effect 2/BIOGame", and a file "player1.prf" inside this folder upon startup, but isn't doing this by default. I created the folder manually, and when I loaded the game up, it finally created the "player1.prf" file inside it, so now everything seems to be working fine.

Strange... It seems like the game is unable to create the needed folders, but once created manually, it has no problem finding them and using them, almost like you need to give the game the roadmap before it'll go anywhere. Hope his helps someone else to stop pulling their hair out.

Thank you so much dani! Just a heads up, you also need to move all your saves that corresponds into your character folder, if you have any.

  Found the solution.

The issue is that Mass Effect 2 has problems creating the folders that it needs if you've changed your "My Documents" (XP) or "Documents" (Vista) location to the root of a drive.  (In my case to K:)

dani1138's solution to create the "Profile" folder under \\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame does indeed work, and the game can save the .prf file there to keep your configuration settings (volume, auto-login to Cerberus Network, etc) and Achievements.

Creating the folder with your character's name in it isn't quite right.  The naming convention is actually "Henry_12_Soldier_040210" or "Zara_33_Adept_040210".  Obviously it is Name_XX_class_DateOfCreation, but I have no idea what the two numbers mean.

The way to get the game to create folders properly, and save games properly, I found in another thread here: http://social.biowar...06/index/786174.  Specifically, Attic Lion's post about 2/3 down the page.  I'll quote it here.

Attic Lion wrote...

I was actually refering to KevSteele's post just a little ways down the page. It seems that when your My Documents directs to a root drive instead of a directory within the drive that ME can't create certain folders within the \\\\Bioware\\Mass Effect dirctory. Notably the Profile folder and the ones it creates for new characters. It still creates the game saves, they just get stored aimlessly under \\\\\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\\\\\Save instead of under the \\\\[char name]_XX_[profession name]_XXXXXX folder they're supposed to go to. So the game can't associate any of your saves with a given character.

Here's what I did step-by-step.

1. Created a folder named "My Documents" under C: (I'm personally using XP, I believe for Vista you would need to name it just "Documents" and I don't know about Windows 7)

2. Redirected the "My Documents" link under the start button to the new directory. Without moving any of the old files over.

3. Started ME, logged into the EA network, and started the game.

4. As soon as all those bloody unskipable cut scenes were over, saved the game.

5. Redirected "My Documents" back to its orignal position, again without moving anything.

6. Copied and pasted the C:\\\\\\\\My Documents\\\\\\\\Bioware\\\\\\\\Mass Effect 2 folder whole cloth into the \\\\\\\\Bioware folder I had in my original My Docs drive.

I suspect that if I ever want to make another new character I'll have to do the whole dance over again.

I tested it by creating the two above characters (Henry and Zara), and confirmed that:
- I can now see a populated Switch Careers screen and switch careers
- I can now see a populated Load Game screen and load games
- I can now save new games to the correct character folders.

As Attic Lion mentioned, I may very well need to do this again to create a new Character and Career, but it works!

I seem to remember that the first Mass Effect had the same issues, while Dragon Age: Origins didn't have this problem with relocated Documents.  Bioware dropped the ball on this one, and needs to sort this out - you can't just port this stuff over from the first game!

From CalindorZ's saying:
"Henry_12_Soldier_040210" or "Zara_33_Adept_040210". Obviously it is Name_XX_class_DateOfCreation, but I have no idea what the two numbers mean.

After testing ,I've found the meaning of two numbers "XX"
The first number is background:
1 - Spacer  2 - Colonist  3 - Earthborn
The Second number is mental status:
1 - Sole Surviver  2 - War Hero  3 - Ruthless

If you found your character's data in load game menu is incorrect, try to change these two number.

Still no luck for me. I am using Windows 7 64-bit. I am confused about where people are saying to move the My documents folders. For instance, my save file is under C:\\Documents\\My Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save. Where should i move it to???

Simple, fisrt patch up to version 1.02, and then do what "SlowMotionKarma" posted on "Gamefaqs":

Link: http://www.gamefaqs....fect-2/53321674

Mass Effect 1 had the same problem for some people. It's a simple fix. All you have to do is go to your save folder

(Drive):\\(Your Documents)\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\

and create a folder. I doesn't really matter what you name it (I used my character name for organization's sake). And place all your save files in it. Start the game up, and they should appear.

Wonder why this issue has not been dealt with in the last eleven months. Especially since DA:O does not have this problem. So it should be an easy fix.

I have seen better support from Bioware :(
