Why no weapon hotkeys?

I agree, I miss the weapon hotkeys too.  As has been said, it's nice to be able to switch between a range of them without breaking flow with combat pause. (Especially since different weapons work better against different defence types, and also that I tend to run out of ammo quite a bit).

Double clicking on menu options to take you to the next screen seems like such a no-brainer as well - every time I have to select an item then move the cursor down to click accept I feel like I want to throw an Xbox at their usability engineer!

Ah well, am very much enjoying the game otherwise, so these are minor niggles at best.  I'm loving the overhaul of the combat system, especially Q/E to invidually order my squad about without an action pause. :)

Yes weapon hotkeys need to put back into the game!

I also want the ability to jump straight to the squad, journal, and codex pages resurrected. They may be available on the <ESC> menu, but it's not as quick and intuitive as using a single hotkey.

Shouldn't they have been more careful when wielding the axe on existing ME1 functionality?

Because the Xbox 360 was lead platform, around which everything was designed. Also because the PC version came out day and date with 360, instead of 6 months later, as was the case with ME1.

I know, I know. You want to have your cake and eat it, too.

surely someone familiar with the unreal engine can tell us how to edit the ini to add this already existing function that inexplicably isn't coded in.

Yeah the lack of weapon hotkeys was mind boggling. Hell, the first ME1 had them. I got over 100 keys and I need to pause to choose my weapon? HUH?

I can't imagine it taking any significant amount of time to implement either.

Simple fact. You want to know why _*something*_ isn't in the game? Because it sold without it and didn't need it.

You have the switch to previous weapon, that's good enough.

The port to PC for ME2 is rather bad. There are so many things missing, and a lot of them would have been so easy to implement. It's just another thing that dot dumbed down... eh sorry, streamlined.

I just hope for ME3 they will take their time to make it right. And I would rather wait 6 month and get a great PC port than what they threw out this time...

"Streamlined" is code for "missing functionality."

But no really, other people have already stated the reason why. It was designed for the 360. They had a limited number of buttons to work with with a controller (inferior input device), and didn't bother to add that functionality for the PC port. Unfortunately this also affected the gameplay itself. The number of powers you have is vastly reduced because they wanted all of your powers to be mapped to a button, so they had to cut powers. This also manifests itself in the fact that the menus are missing double-clicking everywhere and that the little tips for which key to press to do action X are all hard-coded and not read from your keymapping file if you remap keys to non-defaults.

It might be enough for your play-style. That doesn't mean it is enough. It still doesn't make sense that they didn't include it.

Your playstyle involves changing weapons every three to five seconds?

No, closer to every 10 seconds because I keep running out of universal ammo.

No need for it at all. Gameplay doesn't suffer from lack of hotkeys for weapons. Why include them at all? Most classes have only two weapons available, and you use one of them almost constantly over the other.

troll?
- gameplay does suffer when they've optimized weapons vs different defenses and force you to pause the game to switch.
- because it's a standard gameplay element in shooters for a reason and people want them.
- stupid or lying?  half have two, half have at least three, and if you include heavy weapons, they all have at least three.
- perhaps you play that way, but **** you for assuming we all want to play the way you do.
