I"m about 16hrs in.... and can you customize Shep's armor? I'm still at like...250 health or so.... but I was wondering when that would start going up? I'm lacking parts like shoulder pads, etc...

where would one find those??

You don't.



You can only change your ammo type via abilities.

Most of your health and shields increases come from researched upgrades rather than armor. Try to find heavy skin weaves at shops for HP. The shield upgrades are rarer, usually found on missions by hacking certain objects.



There's a capacitor chestplate at a vendor on Omega that makes your shields regen faster, very handy. If you want shoulder pieces you'll really have to look around, they're rare and I only found two in an entire playthrough. One increased melee damage by 25 percent, forget what the other did, think it was 5 percent additional shielding or something.

So the smg I'm currently using is it? I can only use incendary ammo and cyro ammo? I can't add more thermal clips or anything?

You don't change your ammo via an inventory screen if that's what you're asking, they've streamlined it so you change it on the go.

There's another SMG you get later. Not necessarily better, just different. Bonuses and penalties, different feel.

You can buy and research upgrades, but getting altogether new weapons doesn't happen much. You will however come across a mission later that lets you pick up the ability to use a different weapon type (sniper rifle, shotgun, AR). If you already have that weapon type it gives you a greatly improved version of the weapon.

Speaking of this.. has anyone found a 'Shoulder' armor replacement? I beat the game and went everywhere I think.. but, I never found an 'upgrade' for the shoulder armor.

Things like ammo capacity, damage, shield and armor bypass can be researched via Mordin and sometimes purchased or discovered from vendors or on missions, respectively.

I found two of them. I can't remember precisely where. I usually wore the one with increased melee damage. I like running up and punching frozen or stunned enemies. Very satisfying.

Yes. Aside from vendors, all upgrades are done through the terminal in the lab.

Now... can someoe tell me how to upgrade? I have no idea how to buy.... what it costs... where to find materials

There is a upgrade terminal on normandy in the science lab once you have the salarian 'doctor/scientist'. The terminal should be in front of you if you enter the science lab on normandy from the weapons locker. Alternatively there is a console in the captains quarters that you can use to customize your armour.
