Do you mean you've moved your 'My Documents' folder to another partition/drive? If so, are you sure you did it correctly? I've done so (it's on my E: drive) and have no issues. What OS are you using?

I have a similar issue. Running windows 7. It was acting like the original ME save bug since my "documents" folder is on another drive. I made sure I was running the program as administrator and when I save a game it appears in the Bioware/ME2/Save file under my documents folder, but I am unable to choose the saves from a list. I can at least resume my game now but I can not load any other save except for file saved last. This is the only game series I have an issue with, I even moved the files for dragon age and it fixed itself fine.

\\\\BioWare\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\BIOGame\\\\Profile for save ME2 profile

What is that supposed to mean?
Cos I have the same problem. Or almost the same. I can save, but not load savegames, settings won't take, achievements reset every time I close the game and dlc use is too much of a hassle to even try it.

My "my documents" folder is on another drive, it's moved correctly (on XP SP3).
The Bioware folder is on the root of the drive. The "Save" folder is not inside the "BIOGame" folder, but next to it. What do I need to do to properly play this game - without manually removing unwanted autosaves before every game start and basically having only one quicksave the whole game through (madness!!)?

Oh, and is this also the reason why I couldn't make any screenshots in ME1, although I edited the appropriate ini file? How can anyone expect that you save any data other than system files on drive c:??

Edit:
Another thing I just remembered: I didn't install ME2 in c:\\program files, but in c:\\games (like ME1, which works) - is this an issue and might reinstalling to c:\\program files help?

How fast you get bumped to the second page and never be seen again...

I'm still hoping someone can tell me how I can play the game. Without violating my folder structure.

Really disappointed here, ME1 was a lot better (didn't have an ape-like Shepard, either).

And why does this forum add backslashes like crazy every time you hit the 'submit' button??

Mt Seleya -

What Moreus was getting at is that you need to create an extra folder for the game to get everything set up properly (this is an Unreal Engine 3 problem, btw; I had the same issue with Unreal Tournament 3 two and a half years ago, and if you look online, there are a number of other games that have the same issue; the fix varies from game to game; for UT3, it was to add -nohomedir in the shortcut you use to launch the game).

If your My Documents is set up on another partition, your basic folder structure gets set up correctly, but there are some folders that aren't created that you need for everything to play nice. So go (using | to avoid crazy backslashes):

My Documents | BioWare | Mass Effect 2 | BIOGame

and create a folder titled Profile. Next time you start Mass Effect, the game should put a *.prf file in that folder. It'll keep track of your settings now.

If you haven't yet started a game, I suspect everything might work from there (don't know for sure, because I already have a game started). If you've already started a game, one more step. Go to:

My Documents | BioWare | Mass Effect 2 | Save

You should have some save files in there already. Create a folder titled as your first name in game (so if you started your game as "Brad Shepard", you create a folder "Brad"). After you do that, move your save files into that folder.

Everything should work from there. I'll try to check back in on this thread at some point to see if I can clear anything else up.
