This short guide will help those out there who are too lazy to go and gather resources but still want to be able to do research projects and the like. Here's what you need:
1) Mass Effect 2 (DUH!)
2) CheatEngine 5.5
3) A piece of paper or Notepad
Start up Mass Effect 2 like you normally would. It will make the process a whole lot easier if you start it in windowed mode, allowing you to do a lot of ALT-TAB (cause you will need to). Minimize and start up Cheat Engine 5.5. In the top-left corner of Cheat Engine (designated CE from now on), you'll see a computer with a magnifying glass. Click this and scroll down to your MassEffect2.exe process. Open it up.
Ok, we are going to try and find where your resources are stored and edit the value. In the middle of CE, make sure you have these settings:
Scan Type = Exact Value
Value Type = 4 Bytes
Now let's pick a resource to start with. I'll do this Element Zero. In the "Value" box just above the settings, place how much you have of your resource and then click the "First Scan" button above. You'll notice a string of letters and numbers appear on the left, all with the same value. In my case, it is 60000. Your job is to find out which address belongs to your Element Zero resource. To do this, you'll need to know a few things:
1) Resource addresses all share the same address EXCEPT for the last letter or number.
2) These addresses change EVERY time you start up Mass Effect 2. So if, for example, your Element Zero address were 38918924, the next time your start up ME2, this will be totally different.
Knowing that all the resource addresses are almost exactly the same allows you to single out which address goes with your resources. Here's how.
1) Write down all the addresses on the left side of the screen someplace.
2) Input the value of your next resource into the "Value" box. Click "New Scan" and then "First Scan".
3) Note the new values that appear to the left. Your next resource address is somwhere in here.
4) Scan through the address until you find one that matches your first resource's address except for the last number or letter.
Once you have found a match, you can now tweak your resources. Double-click the address and it will show up at the bottom of the CE window. Double-click the value of the address that appears. Make sure you don't click the name or anything else because it will change that property, not the value. So only click the value. Change this to what you want. Go back to Mass Effect 2 and hit ESC to bring up your info. If you did it right, you should see that your resource value has changed. If not, immediately go back to CE and change the value of the address you clicked to what it was originally.
Do this for all the resources. It gets really easy once you know the first 7 letters/numbers of the resource addresses. Once you figure that out, it should only takes seconds to do scans for your other resources, browse through the list til you find a match, and edit the value.
Enjoy free resources now!
NOTE: You can do the same thing for credits but since you don't have anything to compare the addresses to, it is hit or miss. Make sure you save before you try this because if you mess up the wrong thing, you could crash your game.
