I'm now on the search for the second set of squad mates and I have yet to find an SMG. I have a bunch of upgrades for the gun but I can't find one. Could anyone tell me where to find one? I've been stuck with a Handcannon, Three burst pistol, Sniper, and Heavy Gun. But no automatic weapon the entire game till now.
SMG anywhere?

Its on the planet where you save tali from the geth. It turns the 3 round smg into a 5 round smg with the 5 round pulse burst .

WoodWizzard is right about the location wrong about the gun description...
You do receive your first SMG on the mission where you save/recruit Tali. It's the Tempest SMG and it the upgrade to the Shruiken machine pistol. The Tempest SMG is fully auto.
