Hi,
While I was playing, ME2 crashed during a load screen. After I restarted the game, all my key bindings reverted back to default and all the achievements I had unlocked were gone, though my save file was fine. I assume some personal settings config file was corrupted because of the crash. Can anyone tell me what that file is so I can back it up in case it happens again?
If the achievements dont give you any bonuses like they did in ME1 then its not really a big deal, but its just frustrating to unlock all of them, only to have them all disappear in one go.
After crash, achievements gone

Just happened to me after I'd unlocked most of the achievements and got all but one in my squad loyal. Not happy right now.

Same problem here! I had the issue with ME1 too but added the achievements in the console after it crashed like that. Sadly we have no console here... I had the same problem with Dragon Age too, but thankfully my online Bioware account stored my achievements, so they got restored every time they disappeared. I hope in the future Bioware will do the same as DAO, so my achievements get stored online and retrieved when i load the game!

Same thing happen to me last night. I don't want to have to store my saves/achievements online, I just want them to not disappear when the game crashes. If anyone knows how to get them back that would be great!

This happened to me again on my second playthrough. Does anyone know where the achievement data is stored? I'm tired of starting from scratch.

The achievements are stored in C:\\Users\\******\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame\\Profile folder. Hope this helps.

Had this problem in Mass Effect 1 and now I have it in Mass Effect 2??? When the game crashes or when you force MassEffect2.exe to close in taskmanager, the profile data file gets corrupted. When you restart Mass Effect 2, the file is replaced. This means that the data for achievements are reset+video, network and keybind settings.
I had 29 headshots and 5 tech, almost all codex points and lost them by a buggy crash, When I had 5 headshots, I forced Mass Effect 2 to close and when I restarted, I had to fill in all cerberus/EA network data, settings and key-bindings. When I made a head shot, the counter went to 1 (so it was also reset to 0......)

Had that, too. Good thing it takes only one playthrough to get most of them...

Same here. Has happened several times. Extremely annoying, since what bonus talents you have access to is dependant on achievements.
Anyone found/made an achievement unlocker yet?

Had it happen with a power outage. EA tells me it's because I forgot to save my game, which is a load of something. I lost everything for previous playthroughs as well.

To people with this problem, if you're on Windows Vista or Windows 7, go to the Bioware/Mass Effect 2/BIOGame/Profile folder, r-click on the player1.prf file and see if there's an option to restore the file to an earlier version.
Also if your game is prone to crash a lot, it might be a good idea to make a habit of backing up your profile file manually at the end of each ME2 playing session, at least until you have no more achievements left to unlock. Just r-click the player1.prf, make a copy and either store it in a different folder or leave it in the same folder but with a different file extension (example: Player1.prf.backup).

As of today my game crashed and had the same problem as the fellow player above. I seccesfuly restored the file using vista ultimae x64 just as you suggested. The restore point was 2 days earlier but since I have not done any new achievment its just the same.Miriel Amarinth wrote...
