Why is there a limit on the number of saves?

Can it be fixed by some configuration file update?

The save files themselves are only 50kb so it cant have been done due to a size issue, and if you overwrite a save, the save numbering continues past 50. Seems like a rather strange limitation.

Personal preference. I like to save when I want.

There wasn't a limit with ME1 or Dragon Age.

Wow. Only 50 saves allowed on ME2 for PC? Really? That is disappointing. I'm glad I saw this thread then as I'm just getting ready to install ME2. In my current DragonAge run I'm about 70-75% complete and have 113 saves.

I had a look in the config files, but didn't see anything obvious. Hopefully it will be just a case of editing a text file to remove the limit.

While not really a solution, you can go to the save folder and store a bunch of saves in another location. When you need them again you can swap them back in the save game location.

Yeah, this limit is just stupid. Especially if it carries over to subsequent playthroughs (I don't know if it does).

If it's like the limit on the Xbox in ME1, it's a per-career limit.

Why on earth would they limit saves. In my ME1 folder I'm well into the 200's. Bioware needs to fix that.

I use a similar solution as RVonE, I simply delete or move the bulk of the older ones and I am able to create new saves again.

Just keep in mind you can save apparently an unlimited amount of times as long as you are writing over the same saves every so often. So if you reach that 50 limit, you can start at the bottom and write over the oldest save. At least on the PC.

I must agree above though and wonder how you would use up all 50 save slots, it would be differant if you could name them.

Unlimited saves are handy when writing up a guide for example or some people like to explore different outcomes or would like to change their mind much later on or they save like crazy aka "just in case"...

I'm guilty of at least two points. :)

Oh, I get unlimited saves when you can label them or tag  them how you want, but I persoanlly must have 15 "Normandy SR2" saves and besides the date and time, have no clue at what point in the game any of them are.

I myself is at save 65, but then I deleted a few here and there that I didnt need so it means that the game can actually count to more then 50 ^^, it just dont like to have more then 50 save games tumbling around in its pockets so to say.

Just another example of the sloppy job they did porting this game over from xbox.

This game was not ported, ME1 was.

But the decision to limit us to 50 saves is retarded.

50 saves in total or per character?

50 per character, I have hit the max on one, and still have room in the other.

I dont want to overwrtite, nore should I be forced to.

I assume this will be patchable.

Guess I'll be archiving till it gets patched.

Pretty poor QA testing on that one.

Been waiting since Wednesday for "24 hour" reply to a support ticket too.

A DAO support ticket took nearly 3 weeks for a "24 hour" turn around.

Hopefully soon.

it's pretty obvious that they developed ME2 for the 360 and ported it over to PC

the ME1 port was better done and honestly I would have been willing to wait a few months and let Demiurge Studios do what they wanted for the PC version like they got to do with ME1

instead it feels like we're left with a much less polished product in contrast to what we received from Bioware with Dragon Age: Origins

Yeah, I'm not sure why I'm limited to only 50 saves on the PC version. It's not like HDD space is an issue or anything. I've already had to go back and overwrite older saves. Didn't think about doing the archive thing though. Oh well. Might as well keep doing what I've been doing.

It also would be nice to name my saves to whatever I want. Like someone else said, I have at least 5 different "Normandy SR2" saves and I don't know where any of them are at in the story so I'm kinda lost. :P

Hopefully this gets patched or something. This is just what I normally expect from a PC game. It's obvoius the PC version is suffering from consolitis in this regard.

While the interface of ME2 is a bit consolish by comparison to that of ME PC, it is most definitely NOT a port as it runs beautifully while ME lagged like mad. I much prefer the performance of ME2. Higher performance + higher graphics is a wonderful combo.

Dude, it's a port. Maybe better than most, but still was designed with 360 in mind first. I mean look at the crappy low rest textures on pretty much everyone's clothes/armor. Even Shep's chestplate looks like crap most of the time. Combine that with the horrible UI-no mouse wheel support except when changing weapons, no enter key support, no double click support, no F-Key support), the loading screens that are tied to preset length movie files etc, do I need to go on??
