Anyone else finding this fight to be ridiculously challenging?
But who knows, maybe it's just me. I considered the fact that I may be too low a level, or that I may not have enough heals, but I'm pretty sure I've purchased every heal in Redcliffe. Not to mention the fact that Morrigan just throws acid at undead stuff, which does nothing. Giving her tactics doesn't do much, I pretty much have to hover over her and tell her to spam lightning, cause it's the only spell that does anything to him.
Any strats/ideas folks?
The only thing that's even worked slightly is kiting stuff around, seperating everything a little bit and taking them out in groups, but usually by then I'm out of heals.

The strat for revenants and other solo bosses is fairly straightforward, as long as you have Wynne.
You need a tank (sword & shield spec) to fight. Everyone else should be at range so that Wynne isn't overwhelmed trying to heal more than one person. She can easily keep the tank healed against a revenant (use Shield Wall to improve defense). Keep aggro w/ Threaten & Taunt. The ranged damage dealers will...do damage from range.
Make sure your damage dealers have their tactics set to attack your main character's target with specific things.
Not sure what you do if you don't have a healer.

I posted a similar question about a Revenant in the Circle of Magi early. There are a couple strategy ideas in response.

Well I came out of the door from the basement. Not sure if you can get through the main way or not, but I also died a bunch. I finally just tried shooting with arrows and spells from the door and it worked. Revenant never came after me until I attacked the last guy. Then it was ez.

Open the gate first, the other soliders help a lot

Yeah, that's probably my main issue - I don't have Wynne. To be honest, I don't even remember her popping up... I guess we're back tracking/starting again!

Just open the main Gate, with 4 knights the fight is ridiculous (even on hard).

Yeah, I've been opening the gate every time, however I've only got 1 knight there. So I seem to be at a disadvantage.

actually this fight was really easy for me. No one died at all. I consumed a couple minor salves, and one regular salve. That was it. I did one reload as I aggro'd both the archers and the revenant and his buddies.
note: I did this area first as well.
Trick is to draw the skeletons down without aggroing revenant and his buddies. All my toons except for my dog have ranged. So just take them out using ranged. Although at one point my ai screwed up and someone got close to the steps, but at that point there was like only one ore two archers left, and they go down easy.
The adds go down easy too. Focus fire, and get them down as fast as you can. Don't fall behind on heals (if you don't have heals, then I can imagine this being extremely tough). Then concentrate on revenant. At one point my archer/rogue aggro'd and she ran away and he went back to my tank. no biggie.

Cone of Cold. Just have Morrigan cast cone of cold and then have all your characters attack it while it's frozen. Have Wynne cast stonefist at it, have Leliana backstab it, have Alistair overpower it, have Sten mightblow it.

i beat the yard revenant in 2 tries, first try i didnt realise that Alistair got pulled, after that i was solid
my strat (used Morrigan, Lelianna, Alistair and Mage)
Set an initial grease pool down with my mage as the skeletons started moving, Revenant was also affected, straight away i firebombed my grease, so as they slipped they also got boomed and KB'd, this took all the skeletons to half health.
The Rev pulled Alistair right before the boom, so he took a chunk of damage, healed him. at this point i had Alistair alone with the Revenant, and 4 skeletons crossing the flaming pit. I set my mage to cone of cold the 4 skeletons, i missed one, but i set the rest of my party on this, quickly took him out and Lelianna shattered another, left with 2,
used Morrigans stun for CC, burnt one quick, and then delt with the final one, at the same time you need to watch Alistair's HP, use pots when needed.
By the time the skeletons were dead, there was still residue fire between myself and the revenant, so i cone of cold over the fire to extinguish it, and then its just tank and spank using CC on the revenant when its available

The revenants are the most ****ty idea to ever come out from that game, IMO. I know I can fight them at high enough levels, but the designers have placed them is such ridiculous locations compared to your level.
At the Circle, I was too low level and had to load a previous game waay back because you can't escape the tower until you've completed it.
At Redcliffe, you need to fight one to continue on, it seems. This was also at too low a level, despite the fact I was just breezing through the other enemies at that location. I even managed to control the corpses and save myself from having been overrun. But the second I started attacking that Revenant... oh my, I can even find the words.
Ultimately, if I need to reload a previous game from before I enter the Castle, if I can't escape, I'll need to keep on trying to find quests and level up in other locations where these Revenants aren't present, until I get high enough to deal with them. But the fact that I even need to do that is just lame. Sure, I can use Wynne, but I need to be at the Circle to get here. Morrigan? well, she's of major use but as I said, we're all too low in level (7-8).
I'm sorry, Bioware, but this is just poor designing. When you are forced into a gauntlet scenario you can't get out of, you can't just create stuff like this. Enemies are supposed to be balanced according to the other spawns and your relative level. Keep these random superuniques in areas that aren't forced upon you. When I just hack through the zombies effortlessly, only to suddenly be wiped in seconds by a freak encounter, then red lights should've been blinking a long time ago. Didn't you guys at Bioware playtest this game?!! I mean, WTF...
Anyways, can't be complaining without also giving some praise to even it out. The game is really something else, and I love it. But come on, how unbalanced can you be? Even fighting Icewind Dale bosses with the wrong crew weren't as hard as this, and that's coming from a guy who has beaten Doom 3 on Nightmare mode. So there...

You have to fight a Revenant in the circle tower?
Anyway . . . just open up the gate and 4 knights come in and help you. Very easy.

yep that's the way to go
he's going down easy once you get the knights help dealing with him
but it doesn't hurt to bring Morrigan or wynne had Morrigan cast cone of cold with firebomb from Leliana when he just started to move everytime

Ok, I guess I overlooked that gate, my bad. Anyways, I'm in the forest atm and I already got the Cone for Morrigan. I also sidetracked a little an gave her Heal, although not sure if that's a good strategic choice. But time will tell I guess.
Anyways, nice tip on the gate. Oh and btw the Revenant in the Circle Tower is found by activating a fallen statue in a room. That Revenant is optional I think, but I'm sort of a completionist so it's not optional for me lol. Anyways, I was too low level to deal with that tower anyways, I got ganked by 7 or 8 possessed templars at once. No idea wth they all were doing in the same room, that's way too OP. But oh well.

i solo'd him with my 2 handed warrior with knight commanders armor in about 10 seconds. 2 handed warrior with spell resistance and indominable always on is a machine. only time i had trouble with him was on my rogue playthrough where he could pull me and continually cast spells or knock me down.

Technically, no. It's in a side room with a bunch of overturned pews and the phylactery containing the revenant is in the knocked-over statue.thegreateski wrote...

As far as fighting revenants are concerned, as long as you have a warrior with the taunt ability, it's pretty simple (except on nightmare difficulty, as aggro is primarily determined by proximity first). Just control the character with taunt, use it if you need to in order for the revenant to be drawn to you, then run from him. Any character capable of ranged attacks can let loose on him, melee characters aren't that useful for this strategy (any random bows/xbows you have for your meleers make it easier). Mages like Morrigan or Wynne fire the occasional spell at it. Whenever the revenant stops following your tank around, taunt again. Rinse and repeat.
Oh, and both the paralyze and force field spells are invaluable for crowd control or buying extra time to heal or wait for mana/stamina to recharge.

Definitely agree here that you MUST pull the archers separately. You can even get most of the revenant's immediate cronies to come separately too if you attack them from the farthest range with a bow or staff. He is much easier to kill when you aren't worried about his adds.
The knights from the gate depend on whether they survived the Redcliffe battle. If you only have Perth, it's likely that the others died then.
Even without Cone of Cold or Paralyze - your basic Winter's Grasp has a chance to freeze the revenant and interrupt his next attack. Assuming you have a lower level Morrigan with no CC, just spam your Winter's Grasp, Lightning & Drain Life.
I was able to defeat the Circle Tower revenant with a level 8 party by using the warrior aggro and run tactic while everyone else attacks with ranged - it will work here as well, just keep switching back to Morrigan so she uses her damaging spells and not her staff.

Just as a note, all the Circle Tower "sidequest" bosses can be returned to later on. If you go to the Tower first, you can just power through the main areas and save the revenant and the rage demon in the basement for later on when you are higher level. Chances are good you're going to have to come back anyway to open the 4-5 high level chests that a level 8 rogue can't pick.

In one of my playthroughs Ser Perth managed to die during the attack on Redcliffe. That idiot was standing in the middle of the burning oil... This meant that you could NOT get his help with the revenant. However, remember that the revenant there is not an orange enemy, just a yellow. The last time I just rushed him with all my melee characters and it didn't take long to take him down.
