My info:
1.      OS:      Windows XP SP3
2.      CPU:    AMD dual 2400
3.      RAM:   3.25 gigs
4.      VIDEO:  nVidia GeForce 8400 GS 512 MB
5.      DirectX  9.0c

My Problem:
I just started playing ME2 and since the very begining I have trouble selecting objects.  The blue bounding box only appears when it feels like it.  Otherwise, the 'usable object' square remains orange and pushing the spacebar does nothing.  Doesn't matter how close I am to the object or how much I swivel my mouse around trying to get a lock.
It works better when I am in combat as I have the crosshairs to direct where I'm 'looking'.  Out of combat, I can kiss object interaction goodbye.
I've had no other problems.  No lag, no glitches, no crashing, nothing.

Further information; it seems to be worse if there are multiple items around to target. Targeting anything on the helm of the Normandy is nearly impossible. Also, pointing my camera straight up seems to help sometimes for some reason.

I've got exactly the same problem. Interraction with objects and people possible only randomly. Really frustrating.

Knutolst--What are your specs? Perhaps we have something in common that's creating the issue.

Further update; It seems to have to do with where your cursor 'is'. But since there's no cursor or cross hair during normal play, you have no effing idea where it is.

If you are having a particularly difficult time, set the game to windowed mode, alt tab into a different window, position your cursor where the object is in game, and alt tab back. Annoying as heck, but working for me for the most part.

This problem is persisting on several threads. From what I can gather it has nothing to do with a person's machine they're running it on. It has to be an error within the game somewhere, we can only hope that BioWare is working on a patch...and quickly.

I have the same problem, a quick fix for that is to hit esc, then hit esc again, then press space bar quickly since the blue target will appear, but disappear quickly. But Bioware should come up with a fix for this, but this should help you get the most of your game until then.

Sword--with the esc trick, try centering your cursor in the middle of the screen to 'reset' the curson position. Should help and do basically the same thing as the alt tab trick

Yes same thing here. I've had runs where selecting objects doors, talking to people fine. But now its completely halting me playing the game. No blue selection box around anything that has a red box and should be selectable. Objects to pick up, people, doors everything. I've also tried saving and reloading yet the problem stays. Until a patch for this exists I'll not be continuing playing the game.

I just bought the game and I am having the same issues and it is really annoying, you think that if you spend around 50 bucks for a game that this common problem would be fixed asap, WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the majority with the problem, it turns out that the people ignored the system requirements, and their hardware is so low quality that the game can't sense the kyboard inputs properly. Since no one other than the OP mentioned any specifications, and an 8400 GS is specifically named as too poor for support, he is the only one who has posted in the thread who had an actual, serious interest in getting an answer.

You know, your spamming every thread that has this problem is greatly irritating and VERY unhelpful. Plenty of people have already stated that they have very good hardware and STILL face the same problem. So, either find a better solution, or shut up.

You know what's also unhelpful? Necroing a thread that's as old as the game just to insult the last poster, who has been VERY helpful in providing resources for people to get better gaming hardware.

The above and yes it is a gaming card issue I had it on my Intel x4500M laptop but no longer once I got a new laptop with an ATI card. So yes its the card and the best way to fix it is simply pressing Esc and quickly hitting spacebar.

Though by god was Aria annoying with this method. *sighs* Well I still managed to beat the game 3 times so it wasn't that terrible. ...And oddly enough there was very little battle lag. The only lag I ever experienced was on the DR. ...Well that and the CB.

Actually his answer is the correct one and it comes directly from one of the BioWare devs. There have been many people claiming they have good hardware and when they actually posted their specs it turned out they had entry level GPUs or integrated Intel processors.

Though Knutolst didn't post his specs here, he did post them somewhere else and his GPU is far below minimum. His CPU also doesn't meet the system requirements.

I was searching for help through google and every single thread I searched that happened to be about this, had him commenting on it. That's why it's been annoying me. It doesn't matter that it's an old thread. I just had to say something.
