Happened to me too. Twice now. Kind of irritating and have not found any way to fix it either. Looked for a thread about this for so long now but no help.

This happened to me, someone sent me a copy of their prf but once I found out where it was I was able to restore from the automated backup. If you go into your "Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame\\Profile" folder there's a file called Player1.prf.

If you right click on that file you MIGHT have an option to restore to previous versions. Select the most recent version of the file from the list that predates your crash and restore. My most recent was about a day old so I still lost a few achievements but not many.

It'll only work if your system restore is turned on and is backing up your users folders. If not then I'm afraid you'll need to find a copy of someone elses Player1.prf and hope they have roughly the same achievements that you do. You'll also have to reset any custom keybinds if you replace the file with someone elses.

This just happened to me tonight as well. I found a previous version of my profile but I lost all of the achievements I did in the last day - getting the last four squad members and gaining the loyalty of a few of them. Really frustrating.

Does anyone know if the achievements in Mass Effect 2 give bonuses like they did in the first game? If not I guess losing a few doesn't matter, but I'd be frustrated to find out that I'm not getting xp or damage bonuses based on a corrupted profile.

This just happened to me too after a crash during a play session. Lost all achievements and keybindings. Restore from previous version is no option for me, the newest version is 5 days old.
Hope there is a way we can restore the achievements from save games.

Edit: This is horrible! I Just found out that loyalty information was stored in the player profile too, this totaly screwed up my 36 hours game...

Hi,

This has just happened to me. Load game, find that there is no "Resume" load the last save and find that all achievments earnt to date are gone!!!

Can we get a note from Bioware to acknowledge the issue and perhaps suggest a work around if any, and a comment along the lines that the issue will be addressed.

One question.. do achievements grant any bonuses or are they purely cosmetic?

You can also easily use a program called Shadowexplorer to restore the player1.prf.

They grant bonuses on your next playthrough like unlocking the loyalty powers from your squad members, where you get to choose one the powers when you import a me1 or me2 character, it seems you get extra credits and resources as well, iirc. I suggest backing it up, ie copy it over to another folder from time to time.

Wait, so why are WE having to take extra cautions to pick up the slack for a developer? Man I love the total lack of accountability...I wish I had that at my job....

Hey guys. THe acheivement for reaching level 30 does that always say 0/30 for anyone else?

I am level 18 so i would have thought it should say 18/30... other acheivements seem to work

Shadowexplorer found only a 6 day old copy, I'm using Windows 7.
I think Shadowexplorer is not needed for Windows 7, the "Previous Versions" tab (it think this is the name, I'm using a german windows) does the same.

I'm on the final mission now, and I want to do an Advanced Training swap to Reave for my second play through. The problem is that I only have Geth Shield Boost and Neural Shock as available options since all other Loyalty achievements are gone. Is there a tweak similar to ME1 where I can simply award all achievements to my game save? Alternatively, I read about the .prf restore "fix" but computer search results don't provide anything.

I fear finishing the game now and gimping my next character. *sigh* This is very disconcerting, Bioware.

Shadowexplorer works for me, though didn't get all achievements back. I will not continue playing the game until it's fixed.

Unfortunately, ShadowExplorer is not compatible with XP. I tried it anyway but no luck. :( Like Hycer, I have decided not to continue playing either. I did use the downtime to mine over 50k eezo that's all going toward training experimentation.

Same thing just happened to me during my second play through... game crashed, all achievements gone and it doesn't even recognize me on the network at start up anymore... the crash and everything seemed to coincide with the the latest shotgun and armor additions! >: | I'm going to try the restore fix suggested above, but if this doesn't work, I'm done playing until they fix this! Total buzz kill!

**Update** Restoring from the most recent point worked as far as restoring the achievements I earned during my FIRST playthrough.  The achievements I earned so far in my second playthrough (including achieving lvl 30 on my lvl 30 character) are still gone.  So barring some fix, I'm screwed.  Hooray!  Fun game though! lol

Same thing happened to me when I'd almost finished the game the first time. Comp crashed in the middle of ME2 and when I restarted I'd lost all my acheivements. As long as it doesn't gimp my follow ons etc its no more then an annoyance cos I'd won everyones loyalty except Talis at that stage. Hope Bioware can fix this soon.

Happened to me as well.

Any confirmation as to whether or not this effects the save games or the ability to import into Mass Effect 3?

Same problem for me -- game crashed just when starting the final mission. Took Windows down too. When I restarted, no login to Cerberus network, no achievements, no modified game settings (e.g. subtitles).

Followed TeddyBearMan's advice (thanks!) and was able to right-click on the "Player1.prf" file and restore a copy that was a couple of days old.

Since this was my second play-through, I think it has all my achievements, except Brawler which I picked up yesterday while punching husks on the IFF mission. ;-) No great loss.

While ideally there shouldn't be crashes like this, my suggestion for Bioware would be to auto-create a backup with each play session for critical files like this which track on-going data.

Oh yes, just for the record, I'm not using any mods nor have I fiddled with the coalesced.ini file.
