 So I just beat mass effect 2 and I went to import my ME2 save file expecting to be able to pick a new class like I did when I imported my ME1 char. To my surprise I couldn't did I just miss it or can you not change you class if its a ME2 import?

You can't unfortunately. Rather annoying.
