I can't remember which translation it was that was in my Senior Eng Book, but it was older than the movie and had the line at the same location as the film, after the "I am maimer" speech and right before he rips off his arm.

Wow, whatever translation your school used was horribly flawed. That is a creation of the movie. Disapointed to hear anything like that would be included in an academic resource.

How is it horribly flawed? I said that I don't remember which translation it is but we actually had two different versions that we read, and I believe one was from 1976, and I distinctly remember reading that line in the text, and if i remember correctly the translation wasn't direct.

someone may have missed that particular facet, having ignored earth -unlikely but possible - I was writing so as not to 'spoil' it for that minority - the computer's opening statement when you turn on the scanner cracked me up.

There are a pile of movie references new and old.

One that struck me as either a happy coincidence or a deliberate reference was the term "Vas Normandy" (Tali Vas Normandy). This is phonetically spoken in the movie “The Longest Day” where Field Marshall Erwin Rommel receives the phone call that the allies have invaded he says excitedly: "Was!? Was!? Normandy!? Phonetically "Was" sounds like "Vas" when spoken.

It could be just someone was looking for a preposition to make the Quarians more unique and simply conjured the word but given the whole WWII motif that runs through the game it seems like more than a coincidence to me.

Also just heard joker say "the next thing you know we will all be organic batteries" (or something like that) when he plugs in EDI to the Normandy… haha gratuitous Matrix reference.

It's meant to be a reference to 'vas deferens' and 'vasectomy'.

if you've got Thane in your party and you stand around long enough and don't move he "pops his collar" and stands like in a modelling pose... don't know if it was intentional or a nod to his enormous collar.

Dunno if this was mentioned - I'm not reading through 17 pages, tyvm, but standing behind Joker just gave me this line:
"Sometimes, I get the urge to turn off the compensators and pull a Crazy Ivan, you know?"
Having recently seen the pilot episode of Firefly more times than I can count, I lol'd.

Did anyone mention that the "Hugo Gernsback" is a reference to the founder of one of the very first science fiction magazines ever published back in the 30's?

Topari brings your ancestors back to life.

Pepsi was wondering why their product became very unpopular after one of their ads was run and translated it back into English as 'Pepsi will bring your ancestors back from the dead'.

There is a System called "Skepsis" and it consists of the planets: Darwin, Wallace, Crick, Franklin, Watson, Keimowitz, Pauling.

Skepsis = Scepticism

Crick, Francis
Darwin, Charles
Franklin, Rosalind
Keimowitz, Alison Rachel or Keimowitz, Robert I.
Pauling, Linus
Wallace, Alfred Russel
Watson, Elliot Lovegood Grant or Watson, Andrew James

All of the above were or are famous or well-known scientists.

Nice catch.

No offence here, but I figured that was pretty easy to deduce. Guess it's just to add to the list, though.

Crazy Ivan was probably more known from "The Hunt for Red October." More importantly, Crazy Ivan is a common naval maneuver that's been around for at least 50 years and is done when a submarine makes a series of sharp turns to see if someone is hiding in their baffles "turbulence created by the blades."

Unfortunately very few people enjoyed Firefly the way it was meant to be. It was released at a very bad time.

Having recently seen the pilot episode of Firefly more times than I can count, I lol'd.

This thing is like the kids thinking that WoW is the origin of everything. The Crazy Ivan is mentioned first in the Hunt for the Red October and is "used" in submarines. Sometimes people (mostly young people) think  that everything was "invented" just recently. No offence.
By the way. Did I miss something in between? Why in ME1 quarians had "nar" instead of "vas"?

I understand where you're coming from and you could be right. However I think the "Crazy Ivan" that Wash pulls off with Serenity would have a lot more relevance with another spacecraft. I don't think the sub manoeuvre of  the same name would have much use with spacecraft of this type.

So in this case I think it's a lot more likely to be a nod to Firefly.

Actually, Carnifex is a latin word meaning Executioner. :) So it's not that GW is the only people in the world that can use that word!

It's also the species name of the marsupial lion Thylacoleo.

Oh and the Krogan that talks about fish
must be a reference to ME1 where Wrex comments that's he's hungry and he
might try and catch a fish, or something.

They also mention a rumor about an Urdnot having been on the Presidium, and scoff at it.

There is an ad on the Citadel that
mentions how Sheperd's masculinity would improve with their product, and
if Tali is in your party then the spokesperson will say, "The next time
you're out on the town with Miss 'Zorah..." I'm assuming it mentions
other female party members if they are in your party.

It mentions Miranda, at least. I've never tried it with Jack or Samara.

Also, when you try to recruit Liara she says something like "So you help me with my problem and then I join you? That's not how the galaxy works!"...

I dont know if anyone noticed it, but if you take Zaeed with you while recruiting Garrus, once you enter the recruitement station, he answers to that kid who grew up on Omega with "You know enough to get you killed!"
Later on if you walk into the room with all the Blue Suns, the Blue Suns leader recognises him and the share a little conversation.
In overall he has several comments on Situations throughout the game.

And during the Omega 4 cutscene, there are several wreckages that look like a Droid Control Ship from Star Wars.
I noticed that there seem to be several wreckages of Quarian ships in there too.

If you take Miranda with you to fight the Ocolus in the cargo hold and kill it, you hear her informing you via the intercom that you are about to clear the debris field. Strangely she is standing right next to you and not saying anything at all.

Or it could be Vas normandy Nar rayya one of the 2
