Collector base, destroy or salvage? How do you think it will affect ME3? Can't decide, what did you do? Any advice/insights?

I know the place is an "abomination", but if it could REALLY help..

Seems pretty straightforward. Paragon or Renegade?

Also, TiM is a jerk.

If you keep it, then the Illusive man is quite likely to get 'taken over' by a reaper.

After which cerberus will take the place the collectors had, that's the reasoning I made for blowing it up.

Although I find the option of 'keeping' it a quite fictional one since not much later you have to run with your tail between your legs back to the normandy. Keeping ain't an option you have.

Even if there is substantial technological worth...

Remember Mordin's words (very wise, too) about culture and technology. He reminded you of the Salarians' mistake of "uplifting" (artificially increasing the technology level) of the Krogan, and look at what it caused. The galaxy may actually not be ready for that kind of tech... and it might fall into the hands of some very unpleasant people.

And there's the history of Reaper indoctrination, etc.

I try to analyze situations like that rationally, and in this case the risks far outweigh the rewards. I'm going to stand by my decision in ME3.

Paragon, but curious on how it would affect ME3. One possibility of keeping it might be beneficial; technological upgrade (on equips maybe, who knows).

Anyone did both? How did it turn out?

Edit: Slow reply xD. Reading some of your posts.

Edit 2: Hmm, if that's the case, I'm destroying it then.

I destroyed it. My Shepard knows these sorts of things always come back to bite you in the butt.

Give to TIM. He grins rather evily at the end saying he will use it to ensure human/Cerberus dominance.

Blow it up and tell TIM off. Shepard walks away smiling, Joker hands Shepard the data that the collector's base had. (Joker handing over the data still happens when giving it to TIM too.)

Either way, someone gets the data that base had. I'd rather it be me than TIM.

I gave it to TiM since I felt that I owed him, with him bringing me back to life from a pile of meat and tubes.

I originally thought Id use my FIRST playthrough as the save-over to ME3, but now Im thinking I should make another one and optimize it. I lost RI Tali... T___T

I destroyed it, and my entire team agreed with me. But I highly doubt that there was any good tech in there at all, melting colonists down into goop thats just nasty.

Thats what I thought to, but Martin sheen's velvet smooth voice seduced me into giving it to him.

Exaclty.

Further supported by everything Legion said concerning their interactions with Sovereign.  The Geth did not voluntarily accept Reaper technology because it would stop their growth.  It would change who they are.  They want to find their own path.

One my first run through my paragon kept it simply because he knows that the Reapers are coming and like it or not, if there is even a small chance that the technology inside can help fight against the reapers then throwing it away would be foolish, however I was uneasy about giving it to the IM.

I don't let fear of the reapers make decisions for me.

I think there's going to be a final battle at the end of ME3, and it will be played out as a massive cutscene featuring a reaper force against all of the allies you have made during the game.

If you went mostly paragon, it will be:
  • The Council fleet led by the Destiny Ascension
  • The Rachni fleet
  • The unified Geth fleet
  • The Quarian flotilla
If you went mostly renegade, it will be:
  • The Council fleet led by the Alliance
  • Cerberus fleet with Reaper tech ships
  • 1/2 strength Geth fleet

Yikes with so much differentiations those scenes will have to be done ingame.

Until now all space-combat has been pre-rendererd videos, making videos of all those different variations will take a ton of diskspace.

Hrm. I played through once and I kept it, because my thoughts were, well hell, they're coming, might as well try and fight fire with fire. Buuut I also kept it because my RI Garrus said something to the effect of why let all those who were sacrificed to it go to waste. I was like... gahhhh shoot.

I think second time around I'm gonna blow it up. Mordin was pretty smart (plus I lost Mordin this play through QQ!)

PS: Has anyone else thought that no matter what, Thane isn't going to be in ME3 simply becausehe's DYING? Think we'll get his son as the next drell on the team?

I think we should think about what the base was used for. I can definitely see some characters wanting to destroy the place just because of the monstrosities committed there.

Regarding Thane, he did say he had about 1 year left. So, if ME3 starts directly after ME2, he would very well still be around. His son just won't be as cool.

I destroyed it, it seems utterly insane to let Cerberus have it. In case you didn't remember from the incident with Jack, they reaaaallly aren't very good at keeping track of what their people are doing... and even the research projects that they know and support don't go well (husks, thorian creepers, rachni, etc). That, and even if they do use it well, they'll use it to make humans have much more power than the other races, which will likely ****** them off... which will possibly lead to war, removing allies against the Reapers and hurting the human fleet. Yeah, letting them keep it isn't going to end well.

I blew it up, considering what the base was, there's a good chance that the reapers are able to use indoctrination to control people who tried to research the technology... after all, one reaper was able to control the Collector Commander directly from a great distance...

on a tangent, did any other Paragon players simply destroy the heretic geth instead of subverting them? I really felt it was wrong to basically enslave them again.
