...which isn't that deadly at all. In some conversations on the planet you get to know that the sun will burn you.

I just tried: I parked me and my party in direct sunlight. My shields failed. And that's it.

I hope for something more dramatic, like my healthpoints wearing down, but I guess I'm out of luck.

I think all they said is that the sun will screw with your shields, not burn you up.

Yes, it screws with your equipment only. However, erm. You're pretty dead without shields and all those geth shooting at you... at higher difficulty levels.
