[Wraith of Shadow]

I have no explanation for why, but for some reason the Esc key randomly stops functioning when I'm running the scanner. The game is still running, I can scan and launch probes, every other key seems to work (the num/caps/scroll keys anyway, so the kayboard isn't locked out). Only the Esc key doesn't and since there's no alternate button to leave the scanning screen I need forcefully quit (via Ctrl+Alt+Del) and reload the game! It's gotten to the point that I need to quick save before visiting every single planet! Please, does someone know what's going on?

My computer specs are:

Windows XP
AMD Athlon 64 x2
Dual Core Processor 4200+
2.20 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM
Radeon x1900 GT

PS: I also had a problem with the screen suddenly loosing power (screen goes dark with the power light blinking, as if in shutdown mode) and the game freezing shortly after (only sometimes returning to normal, but with the frame rates significantly choppier). Those don't happen so often anymore (or at least when they do they're more likely to recover) since I installed the "WindowsXP-KB896256-v4-x86-ENU" patch to obtimise my dual cores, at least I think that 's what they did. Anyone know anything about that one too?
