I thought I could change my class of an imorted character before I started ME2?  My ME1 character was a Vanguard, I wanted to change it to Adept before I started ME2.

You can change the class and look of the character, but you play through the prologue first. About 5-8 minutes in, you can "recreate" your character by changing the look and the class. Not the origin (colonist, war hero, etc.)

What disappointed me was the appearance changing promised. You don't get to edit with your import face as the starting point. You just get to try again.

Yeah, you have to start over. That kinda sucked.
