Chris Priestly wrote...

Please post technical questions in the technical support forum for your platform.

well then, following the instructions the thread continues:

Hi, I'm from Germany, but I decided to post here anyway
because I thought, I would reach more people here.

Prior to the release of ME2 a moderator in the german forums announced that the english dub would be made available on Xbox LIVE as an optional patch upon release. Now I know that not everything a moderator says  is official, but they still have some responsibility not to make stuff up or anything. Many people who would have imported the UK version of the game bought it in Germany instead believing that statement. The thread in the german forums is already 6 pages long and there isn't a single official answer. I know, it has only been a day since release, but all I'm asking for is an answer like "It's
coming." or "It's not coming."

//edit: @Chris: instead of just closing the thread you could've at least woken somebody up in the German support department or something :P

sure, here it is:
http://social.biowar...462739/3#502707

it pretty much says:

some information for all the XBox360 players:
Your version will be German by default, BUT the English Soundfiles can be downloaded after release so that you can enjoy ME2 in its original form.

The rest of the post is about Shepard's new voice in the German dub.

Thank you for looking into this, Jesse Houston. Some info along the lines of "won't happen" or "will take some days" or something like that would be much appreciated.

I'm in the same boat as fo0riosum, I think a lot of german or other european players would very much appreciate if the english language pack is made available as soon as possible.

The german voice overs are a very mixed thing, some are and other are plain wrong, like someone saying "Yes Ma'am!" to a male officer...

thanks :)

and thank you fallenpenguin, posting in the english forums was just the right idea :) But i hope the moderator who posted the announcement won't get into trouble .. i guess we would be fine with "it was a mistake, go get the UK version". At least i would be ok with that :)

I think this isnt BioWare's Problem, it is a problem from EA Germany. The must manage it. But i think we will get this 2 weeks + after the release, so i ordered the UK Version.

The german voice overs arent really bad. But some times the german VO has some drope out. (example: by the Mother and Daughter fight, there was a complete VO drope out for 1min.)

There are really a lot of german customers that are pissed about it. And its not like this forum entry was the only source of this information, it has been spread over almost every german gamenews site and was mentioned in various german reviews of the game as a PRO argument.

Well i hope Jesse can clear that situation for us. Just so we know how long we are supposed to wait for the download.. or if we shouldnt wait at all.

The German synchro is horrible because EA switched all the voices. Microsoft did a pretty good job back in 2007 and now this!
EA is not a small publisher and ME2 is not an insignificant game.

Fable II offers English Dubs on the German XBOX Live marketplace, so it is definitely technically feasible

"Emotionally engaging narrative is a key design pillar for BioWare, and the top-notch voice talent in Mass Effect 2 helps drive this goal. Credible, powerful personalities are vital to delivering a compelling story experience in BioWare's games, and we have assembled an amazing ensemble cast that surpasses the very high bar set in the original Mass Effect!"

That´s a quote from Ray Muzyka (http://kotaku.com/54...s-full-of-stars) and that´s the reason why we want the english dub so badly!

I too hope, we get some official statement about this subject soon.

Compared to the English ME 2 voices the German cast is just bad...

(You don´t even have to understand German to notice the difference, just watch the German trailer)

The quality of the German voice-work aside, there's the issue of customers having purchased the German edition under the impression that the English voice files would be freely available after release, an impression which was created by a forum representative working for EA (as I understand). Customers were given information, which led to them buying a particular edition of the game, and now it's in question whether that information was accurate.

You teased us with the announcement of the great actors such as Martin Sheen, Michael Dorn or Tricia Helfer in your ads (or press releases). And now we felt it's like Bioware want to deprive us non-english speaker from this great experience. Correct me if i'm wrong. I respect the big effort of translating the game and re-dubing it but please everything we want is just to experience Mass Effect 2 with all the epicness of the original english voice actors.

Just adding my voice to the "Give us the english version NAO!" people. I can't bear to play Mass Effect 2 in german. It seems so very, very wrong.

why the hell is a moderator in the position to make an anouncement like that. sorry, but that is the last Info I going to rely on comming from EA or bioware. Sorry, but I am also not buying any of the DLC as long as this problem isn´t fixed!

Any official news on this urgent topic would be highly appreciated. Even if it means that there is no English language pack coming to the German marketplace. At least then we would know that we have to buy an import version asap instead of letting the horrible German voiceacting ruin this wonderful game.

We all understand, that the time prior to and shortly after the release of such a major game like Mass Effect 2 is a pretty busy one. But I hope Bioware or EA will not treat this problem lightly. It`s not some crazy Germans who couldn`t read the fine print. Nearly every gaming site and forum in Germany/Austria/Switzerland published the information, that there would be a downloadable English language pack. I just learned now that this information comes from a post of an "official moderator" in this forum. Sorry, but I as a normal customer can`t validate if someone is authorized to give out such an information or not. Or if it`s true. And I haven`t just read it on just one obscure site, I have read it like a dozen times and I could provide you with like 30 links and more. Maybe it sheds a bad light on the investigative qualities of the German gaming journalism, but  you could have killed such a rumour - if false - easily. It is your responsibilty to monitor the press and web releases and not mine, because I`m just a customer and not a private detective. I simply have not the knowledge to falsify such a thing . So I have to rely on the information I have been provided with by the press. I can`t decide if it`s official or not. You can.

Yeah, it was like Friday afternoon or so local time when Jesse Houston made his comment, so we might very well have to wait at least until next week for some official info.
