I use grunt all the time so I'm a little pissed I'm having this issue too. I'll let you know if it makes a difference to his outcome...

If it's any consolation to anyone worried about it effecting the outcome of the game's finale, I completed it the night before last - everyone made it back safe & sound despite this issue, so it does seem it's related to the skill and not the loyalty status. The only casualties were my goldfish ;)

I've also got the grunt glitch but on the Xbox 360, checked another thread as there seems to be a developer looking into it. Hope to get this fixed as Grunt is my favourite character and I'd just bought that claymore shotgun! http://social.biowar.../index/824624/2

I've played through the game three times now (on the PC), and I have not yet had this problem. However, just to clarify, the only factor that affects how much success you have in the suicide mission is whether or not the character is loyal to Shepard.

I have the same problem too (on X360), that's not cool because I like Grunt.

I have got the problem too. It does not effect the endgame, just the skill use as mentioned above. Bioware needs to get this tracked down and fixed along with the DLC offline play fiasco...I am stuck in San Diego for four more weeks without internet.

edit: I have the PC version

I'm on my second playthrough. First time, all the loyalty powers unlocked. This time, Grunt has Fortification grayed out, even though he is loyal. Hopefully, a fix is coming in the next few weeks from the patch supposedly in the works.

My brother just experienced this problem in his game. I was lucky enough to not encounter this bug.

I have exactly the same problem and it DOES seem to effect the ending (i.e. can't make it happen without someone dying).

Additionally, after using advanced training a fair few times, I have lost several of my skills from the shift menu, and some of the new ones are not available. Seems to be a corruption of the save file, since no amount of reloading fixes the problem.

Really frustrating =/ I played it through a second time to get everything right, and despite doing all loyalty quests successfully both Shepherd and Grunt are broken :(

SWKotOR and Dragon Age taught me that BioWare either too afraid to make patches (scared of breaking stuff that actually works) or does not have enough peoples sorting through gameplay bugs and working on fixes.

[...]

It wasn't always like that. I think it has to do with issues patching consoles and the demand that "If PC gets a patch, us console 'tards demand one too!".

I'm having this problem as well

Edit: found a temporary fix at least, you can use Gibbed's save editor to make grunt loyal. My save had grunt as being not loyal meaning he would likely have died at the end. To fix it open you save, select henchman under the raw tab, and click on the box that shows up to the right of where it says collection (this opens a new window). Then select the henchman you need to fix and select powers, click on the box next to collection again (opens another window). In this window select loyalty requirement and change the current rank from zero to one, after that just save the file (back up you original one first) and load it up in game.

After you do this it will show the skill grayed out from you squad info page, but once you actually go somewhere with grunt it will fix this.

Thanks. Will try that, for I have the same problem here. (PC, of course)

Had it once.

It seems if Grunt does his usual Kamikaze charge and ends up on the ground as the Thresher Maw dies, this happens. You may not have noticed during the battle because you get a bit busy and Grunt revives again straight after it dies. The only way to avoid it is to be quick to hit the medigel if he goes down and revive him before the Maw dies.

Bug? Maybe and maybe not. He's loyal because you've kept your side of the deal but he doesn't get his extra power because technically, he didn't help defeat the Maw. It's probably a bug but if not, I'd say this is the reason.

I have the opposite problem with Miranda: her skill and alternate costume are unlocked, but the squad info screen claims she isn't loyal. Maybe because after her mission it went straight into a cutscene with her and Jack arguing?

No fix for this? I've completed this game 4 times its never happened before, but on my 5th run fortification wont show up. It has nothing to do with Mordins quest as I did Grunts first..

My first 2 times through the game, I had no problems with Grunt's loyalty power. The last 4 times I have tried it has bugged out on me. Saying he is loyal, allowing costume change, but fortitude is greyed out. This last time I immediatly put points into fortitude while standing infront of the shaman at the end of the quest. gotit to rank 3. When I selected Grunt for the next mission fortitude was greyed out and all the points were refunded. This is game breaking for me. I use grunt for his survivability. if he doesn't have the skills needed it ruins the game. I don't care about helmets or vehicals or seeing Tali's face. Fix the core game please.

I have gotten this bug on my "perfect" playthrough, it seems it's not that perfect, i hope it only affects his skill points, well i use him a lot but fortification isn't REALLY neccesary.

Same bug for me.  Played through once without a problem.  Second time through, Grunt is loyal but has no access to Fortification skill.  Either patch 1.01 didn't fix this, or a new game is required for it to take effect.

:(

If you didn't use a Charm or Intimidate option in that conversation, you will lose the loyalty of one or the other (according to which one you side with).  You must have sided with Jack.  I think it's possible to regain lost loyalty, but the romance subplot with Miranda (or Jack) is ruined for good.
