@imkv

Open up the Control Panel

Make sure the 'View by:' thing at the top of the window is set to Large or Small icons

Click on Device Manager

Expand 'DVD/CD-ROM drives'

Right-click your drive you want to disable and click disable

@zakkmiester

When I uninstalled the game through the control panel it didn't remove any of the files at all. So what I had to do was go into c:\\Program Files\\ and delete the Mass Effect 2 directory. Then go into My Documents\\Mass Effect 2\\ and copy your game save files, if you have any, elsewhere. Then delete that directory and reinstall the game. If that works, just copy over your game saves. If not then open a new thread. You might get more answers.

none of that worked and I only have 1 drive.But the thing is that i don't even get to the black screen half the time usually after I press "Play" nothing changes just the spinning circle appears next to my mouse arrow. Even stranger is that after I mouse click exactly five times my computer freezes.

Did you guys try to uninstall (you may have to do it manually) disable any secondary CD drives (virtual and physical) and re-install?

That I haven't tried yet ... care to be our guinea pig? I'm not at home so I can't test it out.

I can't take the credit, pecocus figured it out, I just propagate the solution :P

I did have virtual drives installed. All I did was disable them, not uninstall them and it worked fine. And I agree, this is a very retarded bug. For a game that ships on two separate disks, you would have thought they would have caught a bug like this...

the delete folder solution worked for me, but now if i copy my saves back it starts crashing again.

Its so stupid, game worked perfectly before but my GPU died and i had to get a new one. Even tho i replaced the card with the same exact type of card it caused problems with ME2? and i lose my savegames? way to code guys. way to code.

Now what do you do after THREE installs; I see on the internet that a maximum of three installs are allowed on ME2, and that was confirmed by the store where I bought the game. Great game while it is running.

I've installed a second time after a computer crash (drive failure), and following some much-needed sysem clean-up will need to re-install that third time (also). Do we then have to phone BioWare for permission to install the fourth time?

I have no idea. I would guess your best bet is to call them or even send them an email. But I would at least put this in another thread so people know you need help with this separate topic.
