Would urban fantasy be something like shadowrun or is shadowrun considered, Cyberpunk?

I would consider Shadowrun cyberpunk, yes. I wouldn't mind a BioWare cyberpunk game either, come to think of it. Steampunk could work too. :P

It's a rather widely defined genre, but the Urban Fantasy I was thinking of is the most common type: a story set in modern times that primarily takes place in a city and may or may not include supernatural elements.

Steampunk? Something like Arcanum?? That's a cool game by the way...

Something along those lines, yes. Although not entirely the same as Arcanum. And yes, it was a great game. One of the few I replay every two years or so.

Arcanum <--gameplay footage , definitely was a fantastic game
Shadowrun <--- gameplay footage

to me both of those games were fantastic and brought something different to the table, I am liking a few of the suggestions I am reading in here though.

haven't played arcanum yet, but it seems to be too much fantasy. i like my steampunk to be basically the industrial revolution but with lots of crazy advanced tech. victorian steampunk is cool

For another franchise?

Outside of Star Wars, I doubt Bioware would do another licensed property.

It has to have mass appeal and a lot of fan following to justify a high production budget. Cyberpunk has been touched on in Mass Effect already. That leaves hmm... the Superhero genre? There's been no RPG ever made that exploits it.

That would be interesting and that is one where choices would really become central, to either become a villian or  hero, I wonder how that would work.

Yeah, and I like that game. But I consider it more like fixed top-down RTS scenarios with fixed goals than a true story RPG like Mass Effect or Dragon Age.

I'm very happy with the Dragon Age and Mass Effect settings and would like to see them continue to grow well past the initial Mass Effect trilogy and Dragon Age: Origins.

I have a dream that BioWare Austin gets a good framework built for the multiplayer NPC dialogue problem that has largely kept RPGs single-player, allowing BioWare Edmonton to eventually develop DA and ME campaigns with a small group of players in mind. Not MMOs, but RPGs just as they're making now, with room in the story for multiple PCs, and without hurting the experience of single-player gamers. It's a dream.

For me, ideally they would conclude the Reapers saga in ME3, announce Jade Empire 2, and then begin work on a Mass Effect MMO that uses real-time combat.

I would like to see Bioware make worlds that allow continuous play such as seen in Morrowind, Oblivion , the Fable games and the Saint's Row games.

That greatly expands the replayability.

Oblivion has the most detailed world, but its quite dead compared to fable, and it has quests but once those are finished there is nothing left to do.

With fable 2 you can always go hunt bandits, evict people, take a job as blacksmith, bartender or Lumberjack, work as an assasin and I might still be missing something.

Saint's Row 2 has a great deal of side missions you can complete for cash and respect, but you can repeat them as well once finished. You can throw yourself in front of cars for ensurance fraud, you can fight in a fight club, you can play in a tv show about cops, you can race, you can work as a hitman and various other activities.

I would like to see the size and detail of an Oblivion world combined with a great amount of activities to do as in Saint's Row 2 and being as alive as Fable2, and on top of that I would like to see companions and a great story as such that only Bioware can make.

Your companions could all have a home unless they are not from the country. Once the story is over they could return there if they still live. Some could be married, have children, or live with their parents.

During the story companions could be required to be elsewhere, making them unavailable for a few story missions.

Depending on the relations with the companion you could be greeted differently when visiting their home. With good relations you could be given good food and drinks and spend a great afternoon talking and eating with your companion and his/her family. If they dislike you they could not let you in at all.

You could also buy a house yourself, and if you romance someone through the story, you could end up living there together, and then you get to play out the happily ever after part, or a not so happily ever after part if you prefer that.

As for activities that could be repeated, in a medievalish world there could be horse racing, jousting matches, escorting merchants, protecting officials during a public speech or walk around town, tracking down criminals, stealing specific items, etc

Bioware worlds are just too sterile. Nothing happens unless its scripted. No random events at all.

A world the player is really living in could allow the player to really grow attached to it and want to fight for it.

The player could be given three days for example when the game starts untill the story unfolds itself, allowing the player to really start a life in the world. As a start you could pick out of a few places to live, a class and perhaps create some relatives yourself as well to live with.

During these days you could earn some money, do some work, make some friends and get to know the world. A tutorial could be put in here as well, but it should not be too constrictive and should allow the player to choose their friends for example.

Such a friend could be taken with you on your travels, since its not an official companion this companion could talk less and be more limited to generic comments based on their class and allignment. Making a powerfull friend could be very usefull, but of course they would be more difficult to become friends with. It would provide a good opportunity to round out your party and replace a companion you dont like but has skills you require with someone else.

oh please no. open world games are fun and all, but they aren't what i like most. I definitely prefer how Bioware has done it so far.
i want my journey to have some focus. A story-driven game, and not a sandbox with a story. (damn, Oblivion really left me with a bad taste for open world games)
