Hi everyone,

I had RtO as available content. But I have a problem. I managed to download it, but can't get it installed. When I'm trying to install it, always getting a "failed" message after extracting this dlc on downloadable content screen. My game is patched (ver. 1.02). This is annoying. Why is this so hard? Any ideas?

Update:

I am very dissappointed. How difficult installing this DLC could be?

Little progress so far. I managed to achieve this:

I installed RtO OFFER through updater as suggested above. Then I loaded my Epilogue save and started  "A King's Confidant" quest. I chose the 1st option in this quest (Download Content - Attempt to revive Elric). But installation failed again both in-game Journal section and Downloadable Content Menu.

I already spent couple of hours for this. This is frustrating.

Any help? or ideas?

I really wanted  this dlc just because of its roleplaying value. I have spent my Saturday getting this worked properly. It's 6:15 pm here.

Dissappointed. Frustrated. Spent 400 Points for nothing.

I won't buy another dlc for sure. Because installing a dlc is complete waste of time. Asking again: How could it be so difficult? I have done everything at that useful link below. Guess what nothing happened.

Let me know how it goes The_Admiral, I'm in exactly the same boat.

The_Admiral, I had the same problem as you and following these steps made RTO work for me:

LINK

Warning: You will have to redownload all DLC after performing these steps.

WOW ! That did it !

+rep to you sir.

The problem I had was that it disabled all my other DLC INCLUDING the RtO. What I did was log off the EA/BioWare part in the game and then I was able to use all my content without a problem. When I re-logged in everyting was back to normal.

It's short, sweet, and to the point. It's more like with held piece of content because of shipping than what I would consider added content, but it was fine.

Using W7 64bit & steam - RTO just wasn't appearing - alt tabbing out of game and restarting the 'Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater' service under computer management made it appear instantly.

I love me some Dragon Age, but RtO really fell flat. Its dramatically short, which I suppose is excusable for it only being 5 bucks, and the armor / item drops are next to useless. Yes it did add some emotional weight, and it was nice to have this chapter of the story come to a close, but wasn't the big selling piont the armor and sword?

If your playing this late in the game, you already have better armor sets, and weapons, so i'm really confused as to why they speced the items so low. It would make sense if this was designed as a lower character quest, but then the strength requirements make it high end only content. Really poorly designed choices on the loot.

Glad to hear so many of you enjoyed/are enjoying it!

With regards to RTO DLC not appearing for you, it is likely due to one of these reasons:
1) The DLC has not propagated worldwide yet.
Normally we push the content out early enough throughout the distribution network / mirrors ahead of launch so it has time to propagate worldwide and everyone gets it roughly at same time.  In this case, with the delays so far and knowing some of you already had spent points etc we really wanted to get this out to players as soon as we could, after the final tests passed.

It may still take a few more hours before this gets everywhere though - but I would expect it to be fully propagated before the weekend is out.   Also, given how the interwebz work, it usually has not so much to do with geography, but rather load/connectivity from major network provider to major network provider.  So indirectly that could appear as a geography thing for some countries where typically there is one major network, but also explains why one person in east coast could have it and another not for example, where there are multiple networks.

For those still waiting however - you do NOT need to have points purchased for the offer to appear in the DLC menu.  So while you won't lose points either, know that you can wait for it to appear before having to spend any money, the two systems are not interdependent.

2) The known issues with the DLC updater service
There is an overhaul of this coming in the next PC patch, but in the meantime the same issues we saw with a portion of players after game launch - including dlc not appearing (service not running), downloads stuck, losing authentication, losing connection, firewall issues, cd key missing from registry and issues with the digital download version of the game, etc - are still possible culprits.

The good news, is that there are workarounds documented in the tech support forums for pretty much all of these (someone pointed out this very useful thread - http://social.biowar.../58/index/81613).  And there are already good suggestions on this thread as well.

At a minimum, ensure that the updater service is running while playing the game - that should resolve most of these.

3) General server load
Even if the above appear ok, there are still other server considerations that come into play.

Depending on firewall and your general connectivity to the DA servers, it is likely the dlc offer /content could be trying to download in the background .  It is also possible that it could time out during any of the steps (check for new content, get new list, request d/l of new content, etc).

If it is taking too long to get something the system is designed to not allow it to interfere with the main gameplay - and as such it will prefer to stop and wait until next opportunity to try again.

The end result though is that the game may be aware of new content, and is doing its thing, but it just appears that nothing is happening as it won't actually appear in the dlc menu until fully installed.  Those moving between main menu and dlc, restarting and refreshing are more likely to see it appear 'instantly' as it is trying more often to update the screens.  But ultimately it should appear for all - and is really all dependent on time to download and install the offers.

4) Previous RTO / manual downloads

This one is a bit of an unknown on our side to be honest.  But we know there are folks that did grab an early version of RTO using the manual downloads, as well as there being early versions cracked - please be aware that we have not done any testing against these and can't ensure whether adding the new version will create issues around which version you are actually 'authorized' for as far as the game thinks.

One thing I will also call out however - the manual links posted on this thread earlier (as well intentioned as they were meant) appear to be pointing to the OLD RtO versions.  Again, we haven't tested this, but it is possible that this could create an issue with the game as to which version of RtO you are being authorized against.

Just to let everybody know, the links I posted last night before I went to bed were the 1.0 version of RtO, when the actual release was the 1.1 version. If you used my earlier links you'll probably want to download the updated version just in case. Sorry Everybody.

Here's the updated links.

Thank-you, do I put these files into the override? It's very kind of you to help us old timers who don't know much about computers. Thanks again

For those that are still waiting try manually downloading and installing it. Back when it was not released that would allow it to show up as available for some people (a little illicit at the time), but since its released now I think it should be okay.

There are two things that might need to be downloaded:
Return to Ostagar Offer RtO's equivalent of Levi. I think this is what is supposed to automatically download to make it show up as available. Possible just downloading and installing this will make it work.

Return To Ostager Main The actual DLC. You can't use it until its actually bought with points, but this might make it show up as available so you can actually buy it.

Right click on the links and save them to your harddrive. Then find the daupdater.exe application and open it. Drag the .dazip files onto the open application and then install them.

Correction.  Fixing to use the 1.1 version links.

After many frustrations trying to do the d/l this one worked for me...FABULOUS!!

Although instead of a copy/save I opened it right off with the updater.

THANKS!

Sneaks off to avenge Duncan.

GAH! I should have tried actually playing it 1st.... LOL

It shows up as unauthorized in my installed area and I can see the cut scene wonderfully but that's about it as I can only go back to the world map.... I was so excited to even see it in my available area I posted prematurely.

Now that I used 400 of my 1040 pts on that one... what can I do to unlock it without using another 400 pts.... any ideas?

Schenwa, is your Dragon Age Origins Content Updater Service running?  Try manually starting it before you start the game.

1.) Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER
2.) Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.
3.) Right click it and select START

I tried that again and I have RTO available for d/l as well as an installed "Unauthorized" and when I talk to the dead guy it keeps telling me "New content has finished downloading. The new content will be installed the next time you restart the game. You can restart it now or you can keep playing and restart it later."

I have done this 4x now with no change... same thing. :(

I had the same problem. You will need to follow these steps: help.dragonage.com/cgi-bin/eadragonage.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php

It will mean you will have to re-download all your DLC, but RTO will work afterwards (I believe this works because a newer version of RTO is downloaded that is compatiable with your purchase, rather than the old manual D/L version).

Ah ok... well I just finished with that and now I got nothing. I can't even do my save games as they all require the stuff I already paid for.  It isn't showing anything for available either let alone anything installed.

*sniffles*
