Right now I am in my first playthrough,  I was going to pick the Vanguard for my 2nd but all  I  have heard is that they are really hard and Charge just about gets you killed everytime.   Sentinel would be my next choice but I heard they are more of a Barrier/Armor/Shield destroyer that just supports the squad.

Let me know what you think would be a good choice.

Charge is awesome if you use it intelligently.

It's really, really easy to die in ME2 if (1) you're taking hits for more than a couple seconds, (2) something with a big gun shoots at you once, (3) anything gets in melee range of you. This takes a few hours of play to really adapt to, the rhythm isn't like ME1.

only use charge when enemies are low on health and not grouped together unless you have the lvl4 bigger attack upgrade. then wear the group down and finish them!

"FINISH HIM!" *Charges frozen target shadering them*

I beat it last night with a vanguard. Was my first character and a huge learning curve over my ME1 ultra invince-o adept - complete with shotty! I was actually too scared to charge at first because it was instant death the first couple of times I tried it. After a while, I was a charging juggernaut out there. You just have to develop a feel as to when and where to use it. Also, I evolved it to be area of effect instead of extra strong. It's nice when it stuns everyone around you. That plus shockwave, barrier as bonus with the Krogan shotgun = awesomeness.

edit*  don't let them talk you out of it.  Tons of fun, very brutal, and once you get the hang of it you will be charging all the time.

I noticed that Charge is only viable when the enemy your facing is isolated. And if that's the case, you shouldn't have much trouble killing him either way. I'm not sure how Charge is useful, maybe if you had a sniper rifle so that you could flank to a far away position and kill them from there.
