Can anyone explain this to me?
Or is it just a stroke of bad luck?
(I did his loyalty mission, btw)

I didn't take Mordin and he was fine.

Hmm ya know I had the same feeling to when Legion fell over during a cuts scene seemingly dead you come to find out everyone lived had me worried there for a bit. Was he still dead after all the cuts scene ?

yeah, the end had a coffin and everything and he's red on my crew status screen.

Huh odd did you get most the upgrade I hear while it doesn't factor in during most of the event they do on the final one. I myself got all but like 1 upgrade on each gun =/.

It's strange, but it seems that if you don't take Mordin with you to the last fight he'll always die. Sort of makes sense, he's not really a straight up fighter, he wouldn't fare well in the situation you left him in.
Wrong. I never took him with me personally during any part of the final mission, and he lived threw it all.
I think that stage is actually randomized a lot of the time.

I need to figure out who to send with the crew. I left them to fend for themselves, thinking OH NOES the person I send with them will die! And then realizing Durrrrrrrrr they can fight, the crew can't. So yea, it was my dumb moment.

I already said that I was mistaken about that...

I did his loyalty mission and got him his Omni-Tool upgrade. Does it matter if he kills his associate during his loyalty mission? Because that Paragon part where you save him was so fast, I actually missed it.

So? I overlooked that post. It doesn't make my post any less relevant.

It was just the redundancy. Not a big deal.

Also, I was playing as renegade-paragon hybrid (The mission comes first, but if I can save people along the way I will) and after freeing the Normandy crew, I left the crew to try to get to the Normandy on their own.

Did you arrive in time to save all of the Normandy crew? I remember someone mentioning if you don't save the entire crew Mordin will die. I'm going to have to confirm this as I had him live as well as the entire crew. Next playthrough i'll see what happens if I don't save the crew.
If you're talking about saving Dr. Chakwas, Kelly, etc., then yes, I did do that.
I'm about to play through the last part again to see if it's randomized or something to that sort.
I really wanted him to live. D:

I swear I almost cried. and throughout the entire thing, I was cursing myself, knowing Thane wasn't a good choice to lead a team. Visiting where he used to be on the ship afterwards hurt the most...seeing that cup there.
Oh, and I swear to god as the crew was being abducted, I thought it was all my fault, something I had done wrong.
