Hi,

I can play the game and everything works, except for one really annoying absolutely game breaking thing. I cannot navigate any of my saves in the load menu (the save menu appears fine and lists all my saves for the current career).

This is what I get. http://img51.imagesh...01001291956.png

There are two shots. If it's anything like ME1:
1 is the list of saves for the current career
and 1 is the list of careers

Both of them are completely empty. I can "resume" from the main menu, but there is absolutely no way for me to switch careers or load old saves. Can anyone help?

---

At one point there was some weird text like "characterNameTxt" showing up in a couple places on one of those screens. But after clicking any buttons on the screen that text as quickly disappeared. I haven't been able to reproduce that exactly.

I should mention that the same thing happens whether the character was imported from ME1 or started completely fresh in ME2.

----

I wiped out the entire ME2 save directory in Document/BioWare and tried again with a new non-import char but the same issue occurred. I was able to get the first two screens I mentioned earlier.

After I leave and return to the Load screen it looks as before (in the first link).

Hey Flying-gg do you have your Documents folder in a non-standard location?

Yeah, I've checked folder permissions and everything else. The non-standard documents location is the culprit. I hate it when games mess this up, but it happens so often.

1. Change your Documents folder back to the default location. right click the folder -> properties -> restore default -> apply; click no when it asks if you want to move stuff (you're going to want to change this back later).

(1.5) copy save games from ME1 with the utility

2. play ME2

3. change documents location back to where you had it

I don't remember if this is standard or not, but I also have my Desktop folder in my documents folder which when moved gets all messed up and my icons disappear for awhile. When I revert my documents location, the icons come back with a refresh of the desktop but their positions are gone. The solver to this is a handy tool called Iconoid (http://www.sillysot.com/). Works for all versions of windows so far as I can tell (I have win 7 ult x64).

If any devs out there get word of this and care at all, the reason is because the utility to set settings and copy ME1 saves, works with the correct documents location no matter where it is. So you see some directories get created if you've never run ME2 before.

But the ME2 game itself, doesn't quite do it right. With the non-standard Documents location, I think that a bunch of files were never getting created anywhere, when it failed to resolve the correct documents location, files like the player profile file, among others). Saves however, seem to make it there (at least sometimes).

With the standard location for documents, ME2 behaves as expected as far as creating directories and files in the BioWare folder.

Just for reference...

-"Mass Effect 2.broken" folder was created by the utility that helps you copy ME1 saves, documents non-standard location.

-"Mass Effect 2.works" folder was created by starting ME2, documents in standard location.

-Starting ME2 creates no folder or files on startup with documents non-standard location.

prompt> diff -r "Mass Effect 2.broken" "Mass Effect 2.works"

Oh, this issue. What I did was actually pretty simple. I took all the files pertaining to the save game, cut them, created a new folder in Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\*character name*, and tossed all the saves for that character in there. Worked like a charm.

Thanks dirkraft0 I can confirm I too have my Documents folder in a different location and cannot see my save game files in the load menu.

Ive tried the workaround however it doesn't seem to work for me (Windows 7). When I press restore default it doesn't change any of the settings in Documents it seems to think that my 'other' location for Documents is the default one anyway.

Im very disappointed Bioware I hope that you will release a patch for this and this is a real deal breaker for me.

ChaoticBroth's method worked for me as far as saves and profile go, but that seems to be only solving half the problem. dirkraft0 has it right - no in-game settings are being stored anywhere (well, anywhere that I can find anyway), which means that even though Cerberus is set to auto sign-in, the game isn't remembering my login details and I have to login manually each time the game loads. Also means that any other in-game settings (key bindings, audio settings etc) have to be re-modified for each new load, and most annoyingly, all achievements are vanishing as soon as I quit out.

I ran into the same issue, with My Documents being located in a different directory. I emptied my ME2 save folder a few months ago to safely store the files and haven't touched the game since then. Last night I installed the DLC that I missed out, relocated my save files and I couldn't see my career nor my saves but I was still able to resume my game.

Creating a new folder within the Save one fixed it. Thanks!

I also have my Documents folder on another drive(makes OS reinstalls soooo much nicer), and was running into this issue as well. Creating a new folder within the Save folder named "Zoe"(character's name) totally worked for me too. Thanks ChaoticBroth! Now I have access to all my saves, thankfully. It doesn't remember game settings though, like keybinds. Ugh.

There is a similar problem with Batman:Arkham Asylum on Win7, where you have to change the Documents directory back to the default. With Batman, it wouldn't even let you play - the game would crash as soon as the intro was done if the Docs folder wasn't at the defaults.

I don't know if its bad coding on the part of the game developers or Microsoft - but its a pain in the butt and really needs to be addressed.

This is an absolute joke... this was raised 8 months ago and there is still no fix for the Save Games or the fact that Settings & Achievements are being lost every time.

I have just bought the ME2, installed and patched it, all my drivers are latest and the problem as already mentioned still persists. What the on earth are they doing? This is a simple fix, yet has huge effects. I honestly think the PC Games market is one massive after thought these days and its a complete disgrace.

EA & BioWare should get their act together - not impressed.
