Fair warning, this is something you probably want to experience for yourself first before reading on.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

So has anyone else done the Samara quest line and opted to side with Morinth instead?

I decided to give it a try for my second playthrough just to see what it would be like. I gotta say, I'm impressed with this character. This was no throw away NPC they added for some side quest, she is one fascinating person when you get to know her. Sure you have to pretty much be playing one seriously evil bastard to have her on your team, but it's worth it. It's so cool seeing the way she mirrors Samara in may ways, like two sides of the same coin. Only where Samara can be seen as the ultimate Paragon, Morinth is the clearly the ultimate Renegade.

And it's fitting too, this is a woman who loves to kill with sex, litterally. And she's clearly very interested in your Shepard. Sure that's reason enough for most people to run away, but I can't help and find this character fascinating. We're talking Moth to a Flame here. After all you may die if you sleep with her, but only because you overload on ecstasy. ( the emotion, not the drug, though some may argue the point ;) )

Despite that you still get a peak into her soft side; she has this deep sense of loss at never being able to truly love another person for more then one night. In fact one of the things she says after you recruit her made me think she was purposefully trying to not force Shepard to sleep with her, unlike her previous victims, not just because it was more important to finish the mission first, but because she likes Shepard enough that she doesn't want to kill you. Perhaps one of the first times in centuries she's forced herself to abstain for a better cause.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but there is no doubt this is an awesome character any way you look at it. I'd love to see her as a romance option, even if it's one of the potential suicide endings for Shepard, it would be totally worth it!

Ummm, no. You didn't overload on ecstasy. She destroyed your nervous system and your brain hemmorhaged. But with all seriousness, I can't bring myself to get her on my team. That's just ****ed up.

I thought about taking her along with me but then I realized that even if she is like Jack (messed up past leading to homicidal urges) this doesn't excuse the fact that she takes pleasure in ruining lives. Also, she had two sisters who were the same as her and they're not going around killing young girls like Nef. If there was a save both option, I would have taken it since there is no such option, I just looked at what she had done and the motivations for doing so and judged her.

Actually you can Romance her, but like you said you die if you do so.

Really? I never found any romance option with her, we just talked about it but that's all.

Also it should go without saying that OBVIOUSLY Morinth is the evil option here. You won't have much reason to keep her at all if you're playing any sort of real paragon. Most of my playthroughs she's going to die, but for those that like being evil she is definitely a welcome addition.

SPOILER

Well, she will say how since you were able to withstand the beacon, you'd be able to withstand her. She'll hug you and say embrace eternity with an evil look on her face, then you'll choke and fall to the ground dead.

I wasn't able to recruit her without wondering to myself, "How is this Renegade?". The entire thing about saving her honestly felt dark-side and not "The end justify the means".

When does this happen? Is it a story death?

Which implies that in ME1 when Liara was "helping you" with the Prothean visions, she was actually having sex with you. In front of the rest of the crew. Without your knowledge.

HA, I KNEW I WAS RIGHT!

I'd said back then "Hey, Liara raped my Shepard in front of my whole crew!" and everybody was like "NAAA, she didn't"

YES, she did! Evil ****!

I'm not sure about that, the phrase "can't rape the willing" comes to mind.

This would also mean that you had sex with the other Asari on Feros that you freed from the Thorian. :D

Well they do make it clear after you help Feros for the second time in this game that she wants you as well.  I think she might have gotten a taste too.

On another note I find Morinth facinating too and when I do the story as a renegade I am going to pick her up instead.  It will be interesting to experience that convo.

And that means Shiala was a love interest too.

Success.

A doctor checking your penis for tumors isn't necessarily fellating you. Just throwing it out there.

Just a note i find somewhat odd about the morinth vs samara fight in the apartment, morinth says something like people like her are the future of her species, but i find that rather counter to what she is. After all, if you cant embrace eternity without killing your lover then how do you ever have any children? So it seems like if that disease spread through asari culture then they would eventually die out for lack of reproduction.

The asari melding process can be to varying degrees I think. If you look at the various melding cutscenes, most of them really seem to be little more than a linking of minds. Only Liara's pre-Ilos one is sexualised, to underline the difference between them.

If I had to guess, they kind of messed up with the Morinth melding because of the prudish outrage that followed the first Mass Effect. Had they been given full artistic licence, I'm pretty sure that Morinth and Shep would have been wearing far less clothing for that scene.

Not really, in either case. Opposites, sure... but Samara is in no way, shape or form the "ultimate Paragon". She's far too much of an absolutist for that. And we're introduced to her choking someone with her heels to get information out of them. That's not "Paragon" as the game defines it.
