I have the same problem I'm at the Suicide mission and my squad are dying I have all upgrades and weapons and all there special abilities are unlocked except for Grunt's.

The first time I played through, I got Grunt loyal, but didnt do the monkey quest, and I was able to use fortification. Im playing through a second time and I did the monkey quest, now even though it says Grunt is loyal, Fortification is grayed out. Seems like doing the monkey quest bugs fortification for Grunt.

Just finished his loyalty mission. Everything shows like it should, He's loyal and I can at points to Fortification.

I have the same problem. Grunt is loyal, got the achivement. Unlocked armor, but no Fortification.
I did not do Mordin's quest in the same visit, but I did shoot the space monkeys. Also, got the achievement for killing the Thresher Maw.

I have the same problem. I was wondering if it was isolated - I suppose it's not. I did his loyalty mission, he became loyal, and he has his second outfit and I unlocked some dialog choices with him being loyal, but Fortification is somehow locked. I did the Suicide Mission and he survived, but it could be because he was in my squad the entire time.

Ditto here. This is really annoying that a little bug like this is holding me off from playing the game anymore. Could the Bioware mod please confirm that this bug is recognized and being looked at?

After looking through all the forums it would seem there a gazillion glitches. I too have this same exact problem. My bet is the reason why there are no official replies is because all the dev's are going, "oh crap!" and trying to fix the numerous bugs and glitches. So I expect sometime within the next month we will see a game update and then our problems will disappear. The game is obviously not working as intended by bioware or ea. From loyality glitches across all toons to me1 upload problems to sound cutoffs, etc. So hurry up bioware!

As a note to those worried they cannot do the suicide mission - if Grunt is listed as loyal, it has been tested by generous people on this forum - HE WILL STILL SURIVE THE MISSION. You just won't have the ability on him.

I think it may have something to do with the monkey killing... as I have played through 3 times and only once did it lock for me... the only time I did the monkey thing and fed the varren. T_T

Definitely. I found if I kill them BEFORE leaving the planet with him, he always goes back to fortification locked. If I leave then return and kill them it's fine. This may however not be the ONLY way to trigger it.

I have the Collector's Guide and it said that for you Team Members not to die on the Suicide Mission
you must have all Members Loyal and Unlock All There Abilities and Upgrades and not one of your Team Members will not die.
So if your having the same problem as me which is Grunt's Loyal but can't unlock his Ability your Team Members will die and that's what's happening to me and to a lot of people.

I have the same problem. I can change his armor it says he is loyal on the team member select screen and I can learn his skill for myself. I beat the game and he survived (not in my squad). I have the 360 version. I did do the monkey killing mini-game.
It sure would be nice to use his skill...

I can CONFIRM that doing the Pyjack quest AFTER Grunt's loyalty quest is complete will lock his Fortification.
I played through this part 3 times to confirm and the only time fortification locked was if I did the Pyjack quest after gaining Grunt's loyalty.
I even got his loyalty, returned to the Normandy, and then went back with different squad mates, did the monkey quest then and Grunt stayed fine.
So, basically do NOT do the monkey quest after Grunt is loyal and in your party and you should avoid this glitch. Still needs to be patched though.

I can not confirm or deny what will happen, endgame, to Grunt if this unfortunate glitch happened. However Like RicAlmighty, I can confirm that grunt will ONLY RETAIN his fortification ability if one DOES NOT do the Pyjack sidequest AFTER Grunts loyalty mission.
Also, the return to the Normandy seems necessary if one wants to keep the grunts loyalty, and play the Pyjack mini game at a later date.
In summary things NOT to do:
Play Pyjack quest after obtaining Grunts loyalty before returning to Normandy.
If you were really concerned simply play the Pyjack Mission first, then do Grunts mission, then never touch the mini game again.

I hope this gets fixed. The same thing happened to me. I can also confirm that the Pyjack mission screws it up.
