Is it just Kaiden who acts like a jerk? Or is this how they handled Ashley too?

Was gonna remain loyal on my first play through, but after he gave me the council's whole "Cerberus is just using the Reapers to manipulate you." thing, I went ahead and sexed up Garrus.

I understood his objections completely, (he was with me when we took on Cerberus in ME1) but it was still kind of painful. I hope Kaiden will come around for ME3 and get my back once again once the galaxy sees I'm still a good guy.

I don't think he was OOC at all. Listen, I felt the same way he did. I hate working with Cerberus. Especially as a Sole Survivor who eradicated every mention of Cerberus from the galaxy. I can completely understand Kaidan's confusion and his disappointment in Shep because, personally, I'M still disappointed in Shep. I understand that Cerberus has the resources, but...still. A little more justification would have been nice.
But you'd think a guy who knew Shepard as the savior of the galaxy, who bled with him, who is only alive because Shepard sacrificed a friend for him, would at the very least hear Shepard out. It's one thing to disagree, it's another thing to not even give Shepard a chance to explain.

Tali and Garrus behave consistently when you pull a Lazarus and start going on about the Collectors being the next feint by the Reapers. Wrex gets a pass on account of being awesome, that and managing to set himself up as High Warlord of the Krogan while you were dead.
Liara needs therapy or something, while the surviving Alliance team member needs to get keelhauled.

I'd also like it to go on record that he did just narrowly survive an extremely traumatic experience, in which almost an entire human colony was abducted by freaky bug things.MA5Bergey wrote...

Evil robots are one thing, but living breathing freaky bug things that are more technologically advanced then you and bigger than you can make a hardened soldier shake in his boots.
Alot was going on at the time, and finding out Shep was in fact alive and working for Cerb was the final nail in the coffin. I think Kaiden and Ashley kind of broke down.

I just tune out everything he says. Carth 2.0 is just jealous that you didn't go find him and invite him to your party as soon as you came back from the dead.

I agree with this. Somehow I get the feeling that they wouldn't have been so harsh and unwilling to listen to your reasons had they not just nearly been kidnapped by the Collectors. Or, worse yet, having just seen over half of the people they were sworn to protect dragged off as they were forced to stand by helplessly. It's not surprising that they took all their anger out on the first outlet that presented itself, though unfortunately that outlet just so happened to be their long lost friend and/or lover.BlackwindTheCommander wrote...

I'm still sticking with my emotional trauma reason for his ouburst. It makes sense to me.ToshiStation38 wrote...
It's kind of a ****** off seeing how you saved his life on Virmire and when the Normandy was destroyed. I liked him in the first game, but his inability to see reason really ticked me off.

I suppose, but like Joker says, the events of the first game weren't exactly the best of times. Being nearly vaporized by a nuke was probably traumatizing as well, but he still managed to keep his senses about him. After everything we went through, I would think he would have more to say than to just b**** at me for not being dead, trauma or no.

But imagine our friends are like a soda with a mentos dropped in them and the top on. Eventually all the fizzing from the mentos (the emotional duress) will create so much presure that the top will eventually blow off (Kaiden and Ashley's attack on you).Erode_The_Soul wrote...

I understand thier reactions completely, but I still feel bad. Hopefully We can rectify this in ME3.

I thought Bioware did an excellent job of keeping him in character with and without the romance.

Kaidan/Ashley send you an email after the encounter apologizing, it's all good. They're just shocked that you're with Cerberus now, I mean, it's somewhat reasonable given the atrocious nature of Cerberus.
lol the email is the biggest problem. The ME1 romance, something supposed to be on of the most important choices in the game, is reduced to a blurb of text. Such a let down. Would've been better if you encountered Ashley/Kaiden again or contacted them again and they apologized face to face. Would have resolved the situation better, more satisfyingly, and would've given the love interest more face time. It could've been as simple as encountering them on the Citadel or something... they tear up, they apologize, tell you how much they want to be with you and that they don't want to lose you, blah blah blah... just would've made it feel more real.

I was upset at first but I got over it. I got that email, and kind of understood the circumstances a little better. He was upset and confused. Hell, how did he even know that was you? People don't regularly return from the dead like that. You could tell he wanted to believe but he wasn't sure at that point. Then he probably ended up saying a bunch of things he didn't mean and there you have it.
People aren't always going to follow you blindly, but that doesn't mean they don't care. Put yourself in their shoes. I know Tali and Garrus followed you but it also kind of makes them unrealistic. Especially Tali. Think about what Cerebus did to the quarians, at one point you bring a geth on your ship, and she's still loyal to you. And she's known you for how long? A year at most? I was glad for that confrontation with Legion. She should be mad at me.
At some point Ashley/Kaiden probably realized their mistake. If it hadn't all come out at that moment, if they had more time to talk things out, then they probably would have joined. But the whole point of this mission is you don't have time.
Also I thought it was cute that since I hadn't pursued a relationship with anyone else, before the ship went through the omega relay, Shepard went up to her room looked at the picture on her desk, and walked out more determined than ever.
The point is Bioware wants you to be mad. They want to make it hard to stay loyal. It's good storytelling.
