I just got the new DLC Return to ostagar and have played through it with a character i play through to learn all side quests, items, codexes, etc..whatever there is to the game. the first character i ran through it with didnt get the mages chest key from the hungrey deserter in ostagar. When this character played through return to ostagar i was able to loot the corpse of the hungry deserter to get the mages chest key. when i opened it, it had extra items in it that wasnt in the chest if it was opened during the first visit to ostagar. Now when i played through with a character that had looted and and opened the mages chest by the mages encampment in ostagar, the key disappeared and this prevents me from reopening the same chest in DLC return to ostagar. this sucks because this is my main character and i like to try to get every item and etc... the item i am wanting is the corrupted magister staff. I guess my question is if anyone else has had this problem, or if there is a remedy or a patch in the near future to fix it. Also if anyone has a question about anything other that this "glitch", add a new topic question on this forem and i will post the answer or my input on a daily basis.

i think it was the same chest from before ostagar falling. you get it from the one hungry prisoner and you have a chance to collect it before heading into the tower of ishal. i got it before ostagar fell but it seems to have replenished itself after the darkspawn invansion.

since you use the key once already i dont think you get a second chance to get the items.

if it's not the same chest then i sont know since i couldn't find a key either lol

Yes, it is the same chest, BUT, Recondel said, that there are additional items in there,

That means that you have to choose between doing the quest in Ostagar at the beginning or getting all items later. That sucks,

i got the items in the chest in the beginning and i cant open the chest i can´t find the key either

I'm hoping that the Corrupted Magister's staff is now there during the initial trip to Ostagar (for next full playthrough). If not, then I'll be annoyed and probably add it using the toolset--but I'd really prefer not to have to.



It seems pretty consistent that if the chest was opened during Ost-1, then it's not openable during RtO. That is probably by design...but it *is* annoying that there's an item that now can only be obtained by those who didn't already use the key.

Maybe this is the devs throwing a bone to whomever missed that quest in a previous playthrough? Practically, of course, since many people have played this game more than once and had time to obsessively hunt down and complete all quests, it'll end up being a metagaming decision: open the chest at once or save it until you play through the RtO content.

I can't find the key either, gosh this is soooo frusterating! Is it a "glitch"?

Can´t believe they did that. It´s unlogical, if you looted it before - then you would still have the key and got the staff in the first try
