Well I always use the rule of three. 1st games are always the intro you'll either hate or love em... Second if this one is a blast, like ME2 is then that means they could be setting themselves up for failure...

For instance. Xmen 1: It was okay and the character selection was good. Xmen 2 better then the first by far. Xmen 3... Disaster.

I'm interested to see how they do it as well. I mean one of the staples of Bioware games is the recruitment of your team. All of their RPGs have some sort of recruitment mechanic built into the story. Hell, 75% of this game was the recruitment and preparation of the team.

I personally would be very happy with the ability to choose between your surviving teammates from both ME1 and ME2 in ME3. And while I'm sure a number of them will be back in the capacity of party members, I doubt all of them will be. Especially if you, like me, had everyone survive the mission at the end of ME2.

They won't drop the characters from ME2 and ME1 for new ones in ME3. You will get the characters imported in ME3. The same way that they did it with Wrex, they'll do it in ME3. You might have 2-3 more recuits depending on how many survived your suicide mission, but its safe to say, judging by the ending, that your squad will be with you in ME3.

There are some that probably will have other things to attend to. Here are my best guesses:

For Sure: Garrus (no where else to go, ME 1 character), Tali (same reason, plus romance). These two I would bet money on and they seem sure bets.

Likely: Miranda (severed from Cerebreus if you are Paragon and if not, she still is bound to you), Grunt (needs big challenges!)

Everyone else is open. I had heard some crew members say, when you beat the game, that they cannot wait to go back to Earth for shore leave. If that happens, maybe some team members leave or are otherwise separated forcing you to "recruit" old friends with a smaller crew that stays with you? Also, I think it is likely most of ME 3 will no longer be recruiting characters, but recruiting allied armies.

I think it'll be the same squad as ME2 with maybe some additions or replacements.

The complexity of who dies or lives on the suicide mission kind of complicates everything.

So I think it's easiest and most efficient to continue developing the surviving characters.

This would be awesome, but I wonder how they are going to handle people who let most of their squad die?  Give us 4-10 new characters to recruit and let us have a huge roster to choose from?  That'd actually be nice as well.....

Combine the characters of ME1 and 2. I honestly don't want any new characters but rather Bioware continue to develop the ones they have.

I think the only additions will be some of your old crew, like possibly Liara/Ashley/Kaiden. Basically, whoever your old romance was.

There's a HUGE problem with that, which is the same reason as to why I said they should leave the ME2 characters.

First of all the voice overs. Tons of that will have to be done for nearly every combination of squad mates.

Second of all, I don't think more than 3 or 4 characters can die, unless your whole squad, which terminates the mission and won't let you continue it in ME3. That said, you basically shape your destiny of ME3 by playing ME2. That is also why it's so crucial to recuit your squad members and gain their loyalty - not just to beat the collectors, but any further threat. The more survive, the better.

Characters I believe will stick around for sure for Mass Effect 3 are: Jacob, Garrus, Tali, Miranda, Jack and Thane(though, this one is iffy since he only has a year to live apparently). The reason being is that they are all romance options in Mass Effect 2. They are the safe bets since it is highly likely that at least one of them will survive people's perfect Mass Effect 2 save files and will be among the characters people want to return the most(to see how the romance concludes and such).

I can only think of one character that won't likely make the cut and that is Zaeed. He just doesn't seem like the type to stick around to save the galaxy in all honesty. Wrex will be involved, but I doubt(sadly) that he will be recruitable to your squad. Rather, he will bring the Krogan to the battle with the reapers. I have a feeling Mass Effect 3 will follow the Dragon Age path of convincing the various governments to face the reapers.

Please, not a whole new team. Let us keep and use the ME1/ME2 squad within reason (some are iffy--will Thane live until then, for example, and would Wrex still be leader of the Urdnot? That sort of thing). By all means, if they want to have even more new squad members for ME3 then fine, but please, BW, PLEASE don't cameo off all these old(er) teammates.

I'd be completely content if they only had Garrus and Tali returning, with kick-ass Mordin and Wrex cameos as well. They're both (extremely popular) love interests, and they've stuck by Shepard's side ever since ME1, and it would be really unfortunate to bench 'em after everything they went through, just as the final battle is getting underway.

I'm also of the opinion that an army recruitment theme will be the main part of ME3. You've got humans, turians, geth, quarians, asari, salarians, rachni, krogan, and possibly even batarians. I could see any or all of them being potential military allies, as long as you can avoid the conflicts between the various groups. Might have to choose human or batarian, quarians or geth, etc.

I got my Garrus killed. I think I'll replay that mission. I'm apparently the only idiot here who managed to do that.

Anyway, guys, so we think it is set! As we all know Bioware follows their fans and this thread alone shows the statistics that most will probably vote for bringing old members in and not new ones.

I'm actually surprised how many people agree on that. I guess we didn't get enough of them in ME2 (which we honestly didn't), so we want more, and we don't want anymore new characters coming in and leaving themselves un-developed.

How can Garrus, Tali, or anyone else from ME2 be in the ME3 squad? They die in the suicide mission. What was it that Bioware themselves said...? Ah yes, "The disadvantage about being dead is that you can't go on living". Posted Image

garris and tali should be givens. miranda, grunt, thane are ones who will probably stick with sheperd. Mordin will be more valuable as a researcher heading up a think tank for sheperd. I figgure that its time to make nice with the alliance, slap around the turrians and asaurians to join up with you. I'm looking forward to the quarrians having to show the universe how to resurect old ships to make a massive fleet to fight the reapers.

I think Bio did too good of a job in developing most of the new squad mates. Most of them have depth, and the potential to grow, which makes it that much more interesting. I mean, sure, if there a few that either you a) lost to the suicide or B) killed back in ME1, then ok, they might have to make some new replacements (I like that whole thing about batarians, I've gacked so many I wonder if they'd even consider it!)

The one thing I'm still trying to wrap my brain around is this:

What if you load a save with a dead Shepard? The tips say if your Shep dies in 2, s/he's not gonna be back in 3. Soooo... what then? Does you LI take over? Or Garrus or Miranda? Someone who was considered a Leader?

Does TIM become the new Main Character? (Ewwwww.)

It's something to ponder.

If you die in ME 2 your Shepherd is dead. End of story. If you want to go to ME 3 you have to have him survive.

Also Legion, Miranda, Thane, and hell keep them all around. I loved them all. Most important is Garrus though.

Gimme a side of wrex with that too.

You can play ME3 just not as Shepard.

That's an easy one to answer:  don't get them killed!  My first run through I got everyone except legion out alive (and I'm still not happy about that, I want a 'flawless' result!).
