For instance. Xmen 1: It was okay and the character selection was good. Xmen 2 better then the first by far. Xmen 3... Disaster.

I personally would be very happy with the ability to choose between your surviving teammates from both ME1 and ME2 in ME3. And while I'm sure a number of them will be back in the capacity of party members, I doubt all of them will be. Especially if you, like me, had everyone survive the mission at the end of ME2.

For Sure: Garrus (no where else to go, ME 1 character), Tali (same reason, plus romance). These two I would bet money on and they seem sure bets.
Likely: Miranda (severed from Cerebreus if you are Paragon and if not, she still is bound to you), Grunt (needs big challenges!)
Everyone else is open. I had heard some crew members say, when you beat the game, that they cannot wait to go back to Earth for shore leave. If that happens, maybe some team members leave or are otherwise separated forcing you to "recruit" old friends with a smaller crew that stays with you? Also, I think it is likely most of ME 3 will no longer be recruiting characters, but recruiting allied armies.

The complexity of who dies or lives on the suicide mission kind of complicates everything.
So I think it's easiest and most efficient to continue developing the surviving characters.

Exactly. I agree.

This would be awesome, but I wonder how they are going to handle people who let most of their squad die? Give us 4-10 new characters to recruit and let us have a huge roster to choose from? That'd actually be nice as well.....

First of all the voice overs. Tons of that will have to be done for nearly every combination of squad mates.
Second of all, I don't think more than 3 or 4 characters can die, unless your whole squad, which terminates the mission and won't let you continue it in ME3. That said, you basically shape your destiny of ME3 by playing ME2. That is also why it's so crucial to recuit your squad members and gain their loyalty - not just to beat the collectors, but any further threat. The more survive, the better.

I can only think of one character that won't likely make the cut and that is Zaeed. He just doesn't seem like the type to stick around to save the galaxy in all honesty. Wrex will be involved, but I doubt(sadly) that he will be recruitable to your squad. Rather, he will bring the Krogan to the battle with the reapers. I have a feeling Mass Effect 3 will follow the Dragon Age path of convincing the various governments to face the reapers.

I'd be completely content if they only had Garrus and Tali returning, with kick-ass Mordin and Wrex cameos as well. They're both (extremely popular) love interests, and they've stuck by Shepard's side ever since ME1, and it would be really unfortunate to bench 'em after everything they went through, just as the final battle is getting underway.
I got my Garrus killed. I think I'll replay that mission. I'm apparently the only idiot here who managed to do that.
Anyway, guys, so we think it is set! As we all know Bioware follows their fans and this thread alone shows the statistics that most will probably vote for bringing old members in and not new ones.
I'm actually surprised how many people agree on that. I guess we didn't get enough of them in ME2 (which we honestly didn't), so we want more, and we don't want anymore new characters coming in and leaving themselves un-developed.

The one thing I'm still trying to wrap my brain around is this:
What if you load a save with a dead Shepard? The tips say if your Shep dies in 2, s/he's not gonna be back in 3. Soooo... what then? Does you LI take over? Or Garrus or Miranda? Someone who was considered a Leader?
Does TIM become the new Main Character? (Ewwwww.)
It's something to ponder.

Also Legion, Miranda, Thane, and hell keep them all around. I loved them all. Most important is Garrus though.
Gimme a side of wrex with that too.

If you die in ME 2 your Shepherd is dead. End of story. If you want to go to ME 3 you have to have him survive.
You can play ME3 just not as Shepard.

How can Garrus, Tali, or anyone else from ME2 be in the ME3 squad? They die in the suicide mission. What was it that Bioware themselves said...? Ah yes, "The disadvantage about being dead is that you can't go on living".
That's an easy one to answer: don't get them killed! My first run through I got everyone except legion out alive (and I'm still not happy about that, I want a 'flawless' result!).
