Mass Effect 2 - I can't see or read any of the Text

I don't. so imagine my disappointment when I finally pop in ME2 and CAN BARELY read any of the text (including the CHOICES) for the game?
Im on a Flat screen 29" tV. Its 7 years old. No HDTv. Dont ever plan on buying one unless there is a real need for it (i see no need for one)
In all of the testing, dont you guys TEST on normal tV's?
What am I supposed to do now? I can barely see the text, unless I sit like a foot from the screen. The choices are almost unreadable.

I can't read any of the text, icons, info in the powers wheel, etc... I'd hoped to buy a hdtv before the game released but it didn't work out. Now I'm paying the price. But still.... I'm playing on a giant SDTV using a S-Video cable and Ican't read anything unless I sit a foot from the TV, and even then I still can't read half of it.
I'm use to some text softness but this is the worse I've even seen it on any game. Had no problems with ME 1 on the same TV. So I'm sure it has something to do with EA's ****ty quality control and testing.

Welcome to the over 9000th thread about this. No, they don't test on SD television anymore as they are becoming OBSOLETE! You know, like VHS. I'd say if you're serious about gaming, you do need an HDTV. They look fantastic, are getting cheaper all the time, and it doesn't take a very big one to do the job. It's not a quality testing issue. It's a way to move technology forward. Kinda like how everyone complained about buying DVDs and a new player. People only boycotted getting one until they couldn't find any movies on VHS anymore. The same thing is happening here. Don't get me wrong, when I got Dead Rising, I felt the same way. Then I got an HDTV and I'd.
this is absolutely false. Many QA departments test on SDTV sets as well. If Bioware and EA didn't do their due diligence to test on SDTV to make sure their game works on SDTV sets, then that is a serious QA department issue.
So what if YOU own an HDTV, some of us dont. Some of us wont. and many of us can't afford it.
As stated in the other thread, you provide $1200 to each and everyone of us with SDTV that can't afford one, and we will end our complaints
(Maybe not, because even HDTV owners are complaining about the small text as well)

I agree. People need to stop whining about small things like this. HDTV's are not expensive at all.IllNinjaMonk wrote...

Are they so inexpensive that you'll buy me one? Maybe you can give me yours. Use it as an excuse to upgrade.
No?
Didn't think so.

Not to mention those hack things with the text. Thank someone they ARE color coded!!
This is the second or third game recently that text and in game info has been soooo small it's impossible to read. Wait til you get a little older too..it gets hard enough to read food ingredients....ack.

Since we can't afford the HDTV's today, and you consider them "inexpensive" then you wouldn't mind buying each of us a set right?
No?

They make hell of a difference with games with small text.
Before I upgraded to HD I used to have problems reading the text in some games especially dead rising. Bought and RGB SCART and suddenly the smallest text was readable.

My comment must have flown over your head. Ask Bill Gates if he will buy you an HDTV and see if he doesn't respond the same, or laugh in your face.DeeLite808 wrote...

32" cost me $350. I can read the text perfectly. Only times that it is unlegible is when the text is over something in the background that is white, or a color thereof.just.sin wrote...
I've got an HD TV and the writing is still pretty small... i'm not 8, i don't want to have to play 5 feet from the TV. I like all the ppl saying HD tv's are not expensive, as 90% of the time it's their parents that purchased them...
There are games like BanjoKazooie Nuts and Bolts that had considerably small text and needed a fix. But this game only needs a background behind the text like the first game instead of it floating in the air.

Statistically, 50% of Gears of War players say otherwise....
And you made a poor analogy, too. As of 2005, 30% of US households still used VHS players. That's 8 years after DVD went mainstream. HDTVs only went mainstream about 6 years ago.

Mark Rein, July 2009:
"Over half the users who played Gears of War 2 so far do not have HDTVs.
I think that tells you there are still a lot of people making the leap to HD."
Based on the data the 360 transmits back to MS over Live, on which video output it's using.

You're going off that Eurogamer article with Epic and what that article neglects to mention is that the data was at Gears Of War 2 launch back in the fall of 08. There is also lots of debate as to if that is global or European numbers. Other sites have stated that it was EU numbers only. Add to that, the the article itself was written back in the summer of 09.
At best that is two shopping/holiday seasons of old data, at worst it's only one. Still, either way old data is old and Gears is played by a heck of a lot more little kids in their bedrooms than Mass Effect. The markets are totally different.

You don't know half of what the 360 does to spy on you in the name of market research, hehe...
But seriously, there's a bunch of data the 360 gathers for statistical purposes, I'm pretty sure it's mentioned in the XBox Live ToS.
As for the other comment - HD uptake seems to be following the same trend as VHS to DVD did. I'd say that at the current rate, based on graphing uptake so far and comparing to historical trends, it should be over 80% of the market by about 2012. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if that was more likely US figures, as HD uptake there skews the global figures quite a bit, due to the larger number of households on lower incomes than western European averages, who remain using SD sets. It'd skew the american percentages, while the gross number of households using HD could still be higher than in Europe.
