So Ive been trying to get Mass Effect playing
However, whenever I try to open it, it says I need to get the updated PhysX System. I went to Nvidia, and I ~think~ Ive updated it. However, it still wont play, however I have been able to get to the ME2 Launcher. In addition, it bugs out whenever I clicked configuration. Ive tried updating/uninstalling then reinstalling PhysX via Nvidia, and it still wont work. Anyone have some tips for someone who isnt very computer literate?

Failed to initialize the physics system. Please ensure you have an updated version of the PhysX System Software installed

Thats the data that pops up, any tips or anything would be much loved

Having the same problem, and can't get it worked out ;(
Also have a seperate warning    Cannot find MSIEXEC

This is with the Collector's Edition DVD's btw... should have said that.... and all my system requirements seem to be correct.

Try rebooting. I got that message (i.e. "Failed to initialize the physics system. Please ensure you have an updated version of the PhysX System Software installed") after I updated to the latest WHQL NVidia drivers and couldn't play. After a reboot, it worked.

I've learned that from countless other Bioware games, and make it a habit of rebooting directly after an install.... I'll try shutting down for at least a minute, instead of a restart, and see if that helps after my 4th install. Thanks, Chris. :)

Hope it works for you. I got kinda scared myself. If problems developed after installing driver, you have vista or win7 and it still doesn't work after reboot, see if you have a system restore point still from immediately prior to installing the driver -- can always roll back to that.

No... the problem was from the beginning.

This suggests a problem with windows installer.

Try downloading the most recent version (I think 4.5) from Microsoft.

Now to see if everything else works. ;) Thanks again, and good luck dementia... All I did was update my Windows Installer to 4.5. :)

I have the Steam version. Try searching for "PhysX_9.09.0814_SystemSoftware" on your computer.

It solved my problem straight away.

I discovered an easier way to get it working, Click "Start" --> "Control panel" --> Uninstall a program" locate PhysX in the list, --> "Right click PhysX" --> "Choose Repair" takes about 3-5 sec and your good to go! :) cheers

Now, that sounds like a marvelous alternative!  I hope it's somewhat of a universal cure.  Thank you!

You aren't being at all clear here.  When the error message is about PhysX in these Bioware games, it has nothing directly connected with any "driver".  It is the PhysX that runs on X86 processors, not the one included in the very latest Geforce driver of this or that variety.

Including adequate information in a problem report, ME-2:

Hello Ive got the same problem as in the first topic. When I try to run the game the error message pops up. Ive reinstaled the game, rebooted the comp multiple times. Installed psysx from cd 1 and 2 and then rebooted comp. Ive tried new version of the program (the one with 112 at the end) tried repair as written above in Control panel. Im really at the end of options here. Do you anyone have anything to help me? Much appreaciated. I also got Nvidia graphic card so that should be OK i thing. The strange thing is, that the folder where the psysx is instaled on my C: keeps poping up the message about not enough authorization to even look inside and wont remove when I uninstall the program, not sure if it is supposed to do this. Got vista so who knos. Also as I am quite lame in computers, if you have any help, can you please write it down like for an idiot so that i know what to do? Thank you all in advance.
