Well, When i try to download Windows Installer, It says my version of my CPU doesn't match. I forgot the version of Windows Installer for Vista/Vista XP. Anyone have a solution?

You need to sort that out with Microsoft, and Windows, performing  a repair, restore, or reinstall, as appropriate for how badly your Windows is damaged, as this is not for the other gamers in the Bioware Social forums to deal with yet.  Your bad graphics symptoms are still the same as before, a bad video driver, and your original message is still in the database where you can find it with the "Jump To" option for your own posts (although it's in the wrong forum).

You have all of the answers that are required in here until you fix Windows, and then you need both the Direct3D for your Windows version, as well as Dx9, for this game, and a better video driver. We are not the appropriate place to seek remedial training in basic Windows use; there are plenty of tutorial sites available for that, however, all across the 'net, in every language.

You Don't Have to Uninstall Your Newer Version of PhysX

You don't have to uninstall anything at all.

If you have the latest PhysX drivers, don't delete them.

Just go explore the ME2 CD (if using win7, right click on CD and select "open in new window")

Navigate to:

Software -> PhysX 9.09....exe

Run that executable.

This older version of PhysX will be installed IN ADDITION TO your newer version.

Newer games will run happily.

ME2 will run happily.

"The currently installed version of the drivers is newer than what you are trying to install, aborting the installation."

That's the error message I get whenever I try to install any old PhysX drivers.

Here's how I fixed this problem, download the latest NVidia driver for you video card & run a Custom (Advanced) install.  when you get to the Custom Installation Options screen click the "Perform a clean installation" at the bottom.  then just let it run.  it will uninstall your current driver set, including the Physx driver, restart then reinstall.
hope this helps, worked for me :wizard:

Hmm...what if you have an ATI card? I got this error on my Steam version after having to reinstall Windows. I have a ATI RadeonHD 6870 and still got this error. Don't ask me to change back to nVidia (I choose ATI for a reason).

But should Bioware not just assume that everyone chooses nVidia? And will this still work for ATI users?

Of course it does (work with both, as it's supposed to).

PhysX has never "Required" any particular hardware of any kind, other than the Windows Operating system running on an X86 platform.  It started out running strictly on the CPU, and that is both Intel, and on AMD.  Only just before being bought out by nVIDIA had they designed a specific graphics processor to run their software on, instead of on the CPU.

Had the exact same PhysX error as the original poster (ME2 w/ 1.01 and 1.02 patches installed on WinXP SP3), and here's what fixed it :

1.) Start>ControlPanel>AddRemovePrograms> then unistall "PhysX System Software"
2.) Put in the ME2 disc 1, browse to the "Software" folder, install "PhysX_9.09.0814"
3.) Run game

Note that for some reason after fixing the PhysX problem, the game started minimized... Scared the hell out of me as I didn't get the PhysX error message and thought the game had just hung... Then I noticed the little ME2 icon on the taskbar.. ;D

Sorry for digging up this old thread, but I'm at my wits end with this issue.
I've played the mass effect series a few times, several months ago. Actually, I've played mass effect 2 tons of times, without any kind of issues what so ever. But now that it's time to enjoy these great games once more, it turns out to be quite the challange.

So here's the issue. When I try to start Mass Effect 2 or 3 I get the "using hardware accelerated PhysX has been requested, but the drivers were out of date.
Please download the latest drivers from http://www.nvidia.co...m_software.html
FATAL ERROR - EXITING"

Browsing this problem on the net, it became quite clear that I'm not the only person on the net with this problem. What worse though, is that everyone seems to have their own solution to this problem. I've tried all the solutions I've found on the net, and nothing seems to work.

I have windows 7 and GeForce 8800 GT btw.

1. I've obviously tried to install the newest PhysX drivers. Doesn't work. I've seen suggestions of removing the old drivers and "sweeping" any remains and installing the new drivers (rebooting after each step). Doesn't work.

2. I saw some suggestions that taking the physX drivers from "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\NVIDIA Corporation\\PhysX\\Common" and placing the PhysX files in "F:\\Games\\Mass Effect 3\\Binaries\\Win32\\PhysXLocal" would solve the issue for mass effect 3, but it didn't make a diffrence.

3. Several people solved it by uninstalling the NEW drivers, and then installing the PhysX drivers that come with Mass Effect 2, or the Mass Effect 3 demo <- this really made sense to me and got my hopes up; but it didn't help.

4. Some suggests simply "repairing" the drivers in control panel > uninstall or change a program. Good idea but it doesn't work either.

5. I uninstalled the physX drivers, and then reinstalled the mass effect 2 game - rebooting after each step. This changed the error message for mass effect 2 to "Failed to initialize the Physics system. Please ensure you have an updated version of the PhysX System Software installed." However, I DO have an updated version of the PhysX System. Sooo... this didn't work either.

6. I've tried uninstalling PhysX drivers, rebooting and installing the newest Nvidia drivers, checking the "clean install" box. Didn't help.

7. Someone even solved this problem by starting dragon age 2(!!), exit, and then he could start up mass effect 2&3. Needless to say, this didn't work for me.

I feel like I've tried everything! (Although I obviously havn't) I refuse to believe this is impossible to fix, as I've PLAYED IT BEFORE tons of times!
If anyone have any suggestions, no matter how silly, I'll be thrilled to try them. I love this game-series and I want to play it again.

Thanks,

/fluffe

Harr harr! After 10 hours or so of googling and trying ****, I've gotten BOTH games to work!
I'll let you know just how managed this, in case someone else if having the same issues.

My first solution was for mass effect 3

a small change in step 2 from my previous post: I copied all the
PhysX files from "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\NVIDIA Corporation\\PhysX\\Engine\\v2.8.3" to
"F:\\Games\\Mass Effect 3\\Binaries\\Win32".

This changed my error message to "This program can't start because PhysXExtensions.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem".

I googled this new issue and managed to downloaded this file which I also placed in "F:\\Games\\Mass Effect 3\\Binaries\\Win32", solving my Mass Effect 3 issue.

The solution for mass effect 2
The several PhysX versions I've tried with have all been wrong, the correct version is "PhysX_9.09.0814_SystemSoftware". So I uninstalled my PhysX drivers, used Driver Sweeper to give me a complete clean slate, then installed the PhysX 9.09.0814. I rebooted and installed Mass Effect 2. Rebooted again and the game started just like in the old days.
Oh, I also deleted the entire Mass Effect 2 folder in users/my documents/bioware/mass effect 2 before I installed Mass Effect 2. Don't think this made a diffrence, but someone on the net said this solved his issue, so I thought to myself "why not".

However, now I have a bunch of PhysX files in my Mass Effect 3 folder, but not the matching PhysX version > Mass Effect 3 stops working. However! I read that someone solved this issue by simply installing the latest physX version over the old one.
Clarification: Do not uninstall physX at this point. Simply install a later physx version (the version you had when you solved Mass Effect 3) as well.
I can now start BOTH games!

BOYAH!
I believe an unhealthy dinner, a fineass glass of rum and an evening filled with nothing but Mass Effect gaming is WELL DESERVED!

I'm happy!

Ciao
