Thanks, Amioran. That's really helpful. I like the idea of stealthing for scouting purposes and I absolutely hate not being able to open locked chests.

I was worried that a rogue archer would be far too gimped, but it sounds like that's likely not the case.

Actually a Rogue Archer is one of the most dps oriented class in the game. The possibility to have to most criticals by talents of all other trees (apart maybe two handed), a mass AoE stun effect (that is simply one of the best combat talents in all the game), sundering armor abilities coupled with high armor penetration. This is already enough but if you add in there Pinpoint Strike from Duelist and +2.5% criticals from Assassin + combat stealth (still more criticals) you are in for a world of hurt.

I tried in fact to restart with a DW rogue to see the difference but I like much more the archer rogue. Sure, a DW rogue has a lot of stuns, a lot of attacks, but the survivability and the dps damage against single enemies of a rogue archer cannot be beaten.

Rogues shouldn't be focusing solely on archery. It's pretty easy to swap between melee and ranged quite easily with a Rogue.

If you say so... I still think on the contrary that specializing is much better than splitting talents, above all for a Rogue that have a lot of decisions to make and have much more trouble with the "lack" of talents points.

It depens on what role you want to play. If you want the classical Rogue then maybe you are right. If you however want a more dps inclined rogue you have to specialize or you will fail in that department.

My plan for rogue PC is to take most of the archery talents, a few lockpicking, 3-4 stealth and then some specialisations - ranger and probably bard. I certainly dont want to do any melee talents.

Plus, an idea behind a warrior is usually to be able to pump them up with more armour. The larger sets of armour that you wear, the more mobs are attracted to you, which is bad for archers who are usually meant to try to stay far from the combat and peck away at the enemies health.

Plus, the warriors set of general warrior talents are all pretty much based on melee hits. Another con for the warrior being an archer.

The specializations seem kinda neutral for me. I could see bard/ranger being good for rogue archers while the champion/templar would be good for the warrior archer.

Overall, while a warrior archer is viable, I think the pros of the rogue archer outweigh the pros for the warrior.

A lot of great info on this thread. I'm looking foward to making a rogue that relies on ranged combat, since I've already made a rogue that was purely melee. Thanks for the info.

I was attempting to make a stealthy sniper rogue as well, and then when i realized it wasn't possible I started over as a warrior archer.

As a warrior i get to use heavy armor with minimal fatigue (and no attack speed reduction with master archer), and at the moment I am reaver/champion for blood frenzy and the war cry knockback.

In addition to blood frenzy I use precise striking and the blood ability "blood fury", as well as having haste from the mage in my party (having the double speed increase would normally bug it out and reset it to normal attack speed, but with precise striking speed decrease up at the same time it works perfectly).

With all of that I have over 50% crit chance (60ish if i also use the archery Aim ability, but i think having faster attack speed with 50% crit is better) and almost max attack speed (i think).

Once I start Awakening and unlock it I am going to add Spirit Warrior into the mix...as it will turn my arrow damage into spirit damage that ignores armor, as well as give me more movement/attack speed so I don't have to have haste on a mage.

Spirit Archer ftw imo.
