Preparation:
- Check the discs for ANY "minor" piece of dust. If there's dust use a can of air spray to blow it off. DO NOT wipe it with anything or use your hands. (The game appears to be sensitive to anything on the disc with SOME dvd drives)
- Format the HDD on the Xbox and clear its cache.
- Shut down the Xbox.
- Hard reset the Xbox by unplugging it from the power supply. (Leave it off for 8-10 seconds)
- Start up the Xbox.
- DO NOT login or download anything yet for the game.
Installing:
- Insert one of the game discs (Doesn't matter which one)
- Try to install (This will take some patience as it doesn't always work the first time around. If you get an error message keep trying)
- If it refuses to install (dirty disc etc...) insert a different game and let that load up. (Let's move the laser around in there with different games)
- Remove that game, repeat and try again. (you may have to do this a few times over. I know it's frustrating)
- By now IF it is working the disc should be on its way installing.
- Install the next disc (You may have to repeat steps that you did for the first disc install)
- Once both installs are complete. Try opening the tray and closing it to be sure you aren't getting the error again.
- Start up the game.
- An update is available once you login with your account. Go ahead and do that.
- Begin playing and test out the game to make sure it's behaving correctly and not giving errors.
- Download the extra content once you feel comfortable everything is ok.
When you start up the Xbox again the next time to play. You MAY get the error message. Just keep trying different things until it loads. If it successfully installed before, it should be able to brush off the errors eventually (Try loading different games again to fix).
I'm afraid that these steps are NOT guaranteed to fix the problem. (My first copy of the game had a bad disc 2. Nothing can be done to make bad discs work!).
Hope this helps anyone else.
