The problem is, apparently I had a different Xbox Live user name back when I played Mass Effect 1--- I didn't remember that, as it was years ago.
So, of course, Mass Effect 2 says there IS no game data from Mass Effect 1, sorry! You'll have to start as a brand new character.
I signed out of my current Xbox Live name and signed into my older one, which I used to play the original Mass Effect.
Unfortunately, because I used my code on my OTHER Xbox Live profile, now it's not letting me use it for the Xbox Live profile with the Mass Effect 1 data.
So I'm basically given the following choices: BUY another code (which is ridiculous), play as your imported character but don't get any of the perks you're entitled to, or scrap your character and start all over with the benefit of the perks through Cerberus.
I think it goes without saying that this simply isn't fair. I don't understand why the game doesn't simply look for Mass Effect 1 data on my Xbox 360's hard drive, it would make this a lot easier. For now, I feel like I'm stuck.
What can I do?
I tried going to Bioware's site (or maybe it was EA?) and everytime I click on "Email Us," my computer freezes up. I don't see anywhere to go for help!
Please help! This is quite unfair.
