I'm copying this possible resolution to the data error received during installation from the other thread on this topic to a new thread, as it appears to be buried in there. These steps were suggested by EA Support after lengthy discussions and tests with them afer opening a ticket.  I was finally able to install the game after many downloads and attempts to install the game prior to taking these steps.  I can't promise this will work for everyone, especially if you are not on Vista or have the disk copy of the game.

GOOD NEWS!!! As mentioned earlier, I've been working with EA Support to
resolve this issue (they've actually been very attentive to the issue).
I have finally installed the game successfully, so I'm immediately
passing on the steps I went through that appeared to resolve the issue.
Please note that I have a Vista 32-bit machine so there may be
counterparts to my steps on different machines, or possibly this
solution will not work. Also, please note that I downloaded the game
via EA Download Manager and these steps effect that process, so I don't
know if this will work for other options. However, one can take the
general idea here and try to apply it to their scenario.

Note: I received this resolution directly from EA and it does not involve
jacking around wih rar and bik files and such.  It involves updates to
system settings on your machine.

First note that the resolution appears to be keyed on DEP (Data
Execution Prevention). However, I am going to list all the things EA
Support had me perform to eliminate any variables.  Again, these steps
are applied from the perspective of having downloaded via EADM.  Here
we go:

(Note: I have Vista 32-bit so please use any counterparts to these steps for other OS)

1)You are going to have to download the game again.  Delete the cache
files by clicking the red "x" button in EADM next to the download
2) Create a folder called "EADM" in your "C:>User>UserName>Documents" folder
3)Right click on the EADM icon in taskbar (bottom right on most
machinces), select settings, and point your download path to this new
location
4) close EADM completely by right clicking on same icon and choosing exit
(note:
the above steps may not be key to this but we should try to follow all
steps. this option can help get passed certain UAC controls)

5) Hit the Windows button and "R" key to open the RUN bar, type in "msconfig", click Okay
6) Select the "Tools" Tab
7) Scroll down to "Disable UAC" option, highlight this option and click "Launch"
8) You should be asked to restart your system

(ok...now this next step I think was key to resolving the issue)

9)Open the Control Panel and Select "Advance System Settings" (or you can
right click on the "Computer" icon on your desktop (the old "My
Computer"), if you have it and select "Properties"
10) You now have the "System Properties" panel open - many of you are already familiar with this
11) Go to the "Advanced" tab
12) Under "Performance" section click the settings button
13) The "Performance Options" panel should now be open
14) Goto the "Data Execution Prevention" (DEP) tab
15) it's important to follow the next steps closely to make sure the right file is selected
16)Click the Radio button next to the "Turn on DEP for all programs and
services except those I select:" option. The box below it should
activate
17) Click the "Add" button below the box that enables you to browse for executables
18) Browse to the following directory or the like "C:>Program Files>Electronic Arts>EADM"
19) Choose the application named simply "Core" (there's a green EA ball icon next to it)
20) Click Open
21)In the Box on the "Performance Options" below DEP radio buttons you
should now see "EA Download Manager" with a check box next to it and a
check in that box
22) Click apply and okay to close the panel
23) I can't recall if it prompts for a restart at this point but I suggest you do this regardless.

24)Once your machine restarts you can now reopen EADM and redownload the
game -then install.  You may want to check the options again to make
sure the download path is correct.  The game should install fine now.

Mythinking here is that for others that have had issue with the digital
downloads they can use a variation of the above steps.  For instance, I
have used D2D often and know that they have their own download
manager.  You may choose to add that executable to the DEP bypass
option above.  You may want to redirect the download path for this game
as well, but i think it general defaults to the user>downloads
folder or the like anyway.

I apologize, but I can't think of an
option for those installing from disk. I recommend logging a ticket
with EA Support if you don't have success, as well as others that find
the above steps unsuccessful.  I found them very responsive.

I hope everyone has success!

I would also like to add that if you are in the process of trying to mess with .rar, .bik, etc. files, - e.g., copying, transferring, whatever - that this is more than likely a waste of your time. I know that everyone is eager to play the game. Based on my experience, the issue is not with the game itself but some unique settings on machines that conflict with the download and/or install process. I can't speak though for what the issue folks are having with the hard copy of the game, since I have only worked with the downloaded version. However, you might try a variation of the DEP steps above on executables like the installer. Otherwise, I highly recommend logging a ticket with EA.

Try a different DVD drive if there is one available, or borrow an external one from a firiend / family member.  It's some sort of conflict with the drive hardware.  I had two DVDs it worked with, and two that it did not.

If you guys have networked computers, you could always try to share the DVD drive on the second computer, access it via the network and try to install from there by using the .exe on the dvd.

Ahh rubbish, I've got a download limit of 10 gigs, so another 7.9gb download is out of the question, unless I go and spend 3 hours in the internet cafe and pay a fortune. Stupid DL limits and EA for releasing a screwy DDL

I've been having problems with data errors installing from DVD.  Sharing the DVD from a second computer and installing over the network solved these problems for me.

i also have problem reinstalling the game from the dvd... it failed to read the dvd randomly at different point each time i kicked off the install.

so, finally, i copy the entire content of the dvd to the hdd, and install it that way. For some reason, it didn't have any problem reading the dvd when i just copy the entire disc over to the hdd.

I used to run WinXP. Today, I upgraded my mainboard, CPU, RAM and GPU and installed Win7 Pro 64. The DVD drive is the same as before but now I can't install Dragon Age...

Now I get Data Errors at diferent points.Sometimes the installation process is almost finished when it aborts, sometimes the error occurs earlier. I tried installing over network and from hard drive. I tried various compatibility modes (XP SP2, 3), running as Admin, switching off DEP for the installer, nothing helps.

I don't know what to try next. I had no problems installing Win7 and World of Warcraft (also no problems playing WoW) so I guess my drive works as well as the rest of my PC. Any hints?

Memtest86+ v4.00 ==> 0 errors found.

New DVD drive ==> still data errors.

I'll take my dvds to a friend and try to install the game on his pc...

My DVD drives are all different brands.  I had three of them on release day, in two PCs definitely able to run the game, and one other I'm not sure yet about.  Two out of my three DVD drives had the same problem at the same (almost complete) point and aborted, twice each.  I had my PCs isolated, off the 'Net, no AV, no background processes, etc.  and that hadn't helped overcome the conflict.

From the one DVD that would work, on the third PC, I installed to the two others, across my LAN.  I obtained new DDR400 RAM for the last PC to have two GBs, and will test it later today.

Installing from the Hdd hadn't helped in my case.

But my suggestion to beg, borrow, or rent, an external DVD has procved successful very often.

I don't believe it has something to do with malfunctioning hardware. DVDs, DVD drive, RAM are ok. Mainboard, CPU, GPU are brand new and should be ok (drivers are updated and Win7 64bit-compatible!). My drives are from hitachi but I can't run their hdd test tool, because that will not work with 64 bit CPUs, but I have no hdd problems...
I think something with the install software in conjunction with Win7 64 bit doesn't work corectly. I have copied all files from both DVDs to the hard drive and tried to install from there. I have checked every rar-file and every file is reported to be ok, according to WinRAR. Nevertheless the installer aborts at some point with the data error message :( . I have tried all compatibility modes for every executable found in the install package, tried to install with and without data execution prevention and with/without admin rights. I also tried to install EVE as a test, if other software installs correctly... no problems with EVE. No matter what I do, I can't get this game to work :(

Finally.... success!

I'm not absolutely sure that the following answer is responsible for repairing the installer, but you may want to give it a try...:

https://help.dragona..._sid&skin=$skin

(I did not update my mainboard bios, I simply renamed the InstallShield folder. I ran the installer from the hard drive.)

Just FYI y'all: I tried installing on 2 separate machines, both running Vista Home Premium 64-bit, using an image of the disc (to eliminate the drive as a cause). On one it worked the 1st time, on the other it got stuck extracting at the same place every time. Completely random, and I tried *alllll* the work-a-rounds. (Copy to hard-drive, repair the archive, (core.rar in my case,) update InstallShield, shorten the installation path name...*everything*.)

So, right now, it looks like the only *true* solution is get a different computer and hope that it works. =/

Weird...

My brother told me about something he did with his registry, take a look at: http://forums.amd.co...&threadid=93502

It's something related to ATI graphics and windows memory management. He had some really weird read errors sometimes while playing wow (mostly reloading texture files) and this fix helped him a lot. It seems to me as if the problems with dragon age could be related to some strange memory mangement thing too... Just make sure you backup important data before you mess with your registry :)

I'm very happy to say that I followed your steps and I was finally able to install the darn game after 3 attempts initially and 28 hours of downloading time with EADM..

I already had the game, I purchased it from steam so no install problems for me... but I bought the "hard copy" (CD) for my boyfriend for Christmas.. it's a sad day.. his new game won't install. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it installs properly after following the above instructions.

There are anywhere from 8 to a dozen different message threads on the same problem, and the SEARCH should be able to turn up more of those than just this one, if it doesn't work for you.
