My idea for this thread is everyone posting Tips that would help others with various things in game, heres a few to help get things started.

Scanning planets and Resources:I found that scanning an entire planet(Even with all the upgrades) is a MAJOR pain, and I know many of my fellow gamers would agree its likely the worst part of the game. My tip? I went around exploring every planet in various star systems and when ever I found a rich planet I would scan just a bit, hitting only the really high scans on the radar and with just doing that I easily got all of my upgrades and about 70k of every element before finishing my exploration.

Thats the only helpful tip I have so far but I hope it helps.

Choose weapon and ammo depending on the ememy. For  heavy mechs and mercs with sheilds use the assult rifle with disruptor ammo to get there sheilds down then  switch to incinuary. For light mechs and mercs without sheilds that are at close range, use a heavy pistol, it works great for head shots and if you dont get a head shot it'll kill them in a couple hits. Save you heavy weapons for the biggest bad guys, i.e. the super abominations (the thing that flys and the one with the giant cannon attached to it). and use sniper rifles on enemies that are either far away or if your in a room with alot of objects so you can get a presition shot. Also dont use the sniper for enemies with sheilds.  This is based on a new play through on normal difficulty.

Edit: on Varren and husks use shotguns or (for large groups) the assult rifle

Save squad points for after your members gain loyalty to gain access to their special power quicker.

Only use the Cain (nuke gun) on something that stays in place for at least 10 seconds at a time if its a boss.

Talk to your squad mates as much as possible.

Put points into your non combat power skill. It help raise your Paragon/Renegade lvl and helps people avoid the Jack/Miranda split option.

You don't necessarily have to complete a main story mission for talking your squadmates again.

Sometimes a simple N7 mission triggers the availability of the next conversation.

Do the derelict reaper mission only after you've finished absolutely everything you want to, or it will be impossible to get the "save all crew members" achievement.

Scanning:
I found some Rich planets that seemed to be limitless, ie i could send a huge amount of probes without any change on the planet.

It is especially enjoyable when you find a Rich planet (that does not seem to run out as quick), that has high quantity of Element Zero.

Quite nice!

Oh, raise your Passive skill that enhances Paragon/Renegade points early, it will help later on. :)

For a huge amount of Varren / Husks charging in on you, use Shockwave if available. :)
