Hey all,

I just finished the game, and I had one person die during the final sequence, but I have no idea why! I had every character loyal, all ship upgrades, but not all armor/weapon upgrades. The person that died was Mordin. I had sent Tali though the vents, which she did fine. I did not have Mordin with me at all, I had him second squad the whole time (Miranda leading). Did anyone have a similar situation or could shed any light as to what happened?
The cutscene right before you hop on the Normandy (The scene where Joker is shooting Collectors behind you, right before that) just started with a picture of a dead Mordin, and then Collectors running over his corpse. No prompt that anyone was hurt during the game or anything, so I'm very confused :(. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

He died of old age.

I hear he randomly dies sometimes defending the door.

I left him at the door and he lived, though, so I think it's random.

it was your squad leader/tech guy, the choice sorta matters....

I sent in legion and had Zaeed run the fire team, first time Legion gets a rocket to the face..didnt make sense...he was loyal and upgraded, so I reloaded and replaced Zaeed with Garrus...and he lived...

In other words, make your choices extremely carefully, remember their back stories

Thanks for the feedback, all. I'm trying again with Garrus leading, and I'll hope for the best.

Was he "dead" when you defeated the Reaper? (As in got killed in the fight and you didn't use Unity to revive him before killing the reaper). I saw someone mention that if one of them is down when that happens then they'll be dead in the cutscene.

Miranda's probably the best secondary leader. Are you sure she's still loyal? You can lose her loyalty during certain arguments if your Paragon/Renegade is not high enough.

No, I didn't bring Mordin with me, he was part of the strike team. I just saw his dead body during the cut scene. I brought him with me this time just to be safe, and this time, everyone lived! The OCD part that wanted that achievement can rest easy tonight. Thanks again for the input :).

I lost Tali (at last!) and Zaeed.

Tali's death made me lol, made her do the tech run, only character I didnt have full loyalty of.

I put Garrus in second squad initially and then kept him on me after that (didnt want to lose him).

I lost Zaeed when he got shot through the door, he was leader of second squad for the second part.

Don't know if the biotic person matters for the mission, but I had the Asari doing the barrier.

all up: glad to have finally got rid of Tali, Bit sad that Zaeed is no more, I liked that dude.

Had Legion go through through the chute, and Garrus lead the first team. No problems.

Had Zaeed escort survivors back.

Samara lead the 2nd team, Jack did the barrier. Samara died.

Took Legion and Jack to final fight. No further deaths.

You could have replaced Zaeed with Jacob and you would have only lost Tali.

Lost Garrus - shot through the door after running the vents; and lost Mordin and Miranda - they were covering our backs while we went to the console, had the cut scene with them lying dead while collectors ran by. I was sad about Miranda, but didnt have her loyalty. If I make Miranda loyal, will I lost Jack's loyalty?

How can Shepard die?

If you fully upgrade the Normandy, have everyone loyal, and choose the correct people for the different jobs, is it assured that Shepard will live? I would hate to do everything right only to have teammates or Shepard randomly die.

When Miranda did the biotic barrier my squad member bought it. When Samara did it...no one was injured in the making of the film.

Legion - Vents

Jacob - Second team leader

Zaed - escort

Mordin died, but I didn't get a cut scene. Didn't even know he was dead until I got back to the ship and he wasn't there. :(

Feels like a bug to me.

As far as I know Shepard can only die if everyone else has died as well and/or if he's alone when running back to the Normandy. I don't really know the requirements for it, a friend showed me that part and all I could tell is that he was alone after the final boss.

Anyway, as for Mordin, I really wish I know why he keeps dying for some people. He's always been holding the door for me and he never managed to get killed. It would be kind of silly if it was just completely random.

I used Jacob to go through the vents, and he died. Can't say I'm too sad about it, but I may go back and do it again just because I'm cool like that. Nobody else died, though.

As for Mordin... That sounds strange, and somewhat like a glitch.

This is like the 3 or 4th post where the mordin thing has been brought up. It happened to me too.

Picked garrus as squad leader both times, legion in the vents, samara as the biotic, had all loyalty and ship upgrades. All of these coincide w/ what people say you should do to keep everyone alive. Not sure why he died. Nearing the end of my second playthrough so well see what happens this time.

I followed the exact same scenario and Mordin died defending the door as well. I replayed the final mission and decided to send him back with the crew, and everyone survived that time around.

My personal experiences show:

Legion or Tali for the vents. (Never used anyone else.)

Miranda or Garrus for leading the other teams. I assume Jacob would work too, since Miranda and Jacob are the Ash and Alenko of ME2. (Everyone else took a bullet and died.)

Anyone will survive the escort. (I had Zaeed, Grunt, and Mordin do this one.)

Jack or Samara for the seeker swarm. (Never tried anyone else.)

The only one I ever lost was Mordin. He stayed behind to hold the door when I fought the Reaper. I replayed, no different choices, and he survived. Another time, I had him escort the crew and didn't lose anyone.

It all makes sense.

Tali has an enviroment suit and Legion is a robot, so they can survive in the vents, even if it is a rocket that kills them or whatever. (Never lost anyone here.)

Miranda and Garrus have experience leading teams.

Samara and Jack are the most powerful biotics in the galaxy.

The path is already cleared to the shuttle so anyone could handle the random Collectors that might be there.

That doesn't matter. I got him his omnitool everytime and he died holding that door.

I lost a good number of people, but I did not complain for logical reasons:

1. First to die was Thane, he was a trained assassin accustomed to climbing venting shafts and its like, as we did the first time we met in the Skyskraper towers. However, he only had 8-12 months left, so this was a meaningful death, also now he made peace with his only son, as he was the technology infiltrator in those 8 venting shafts. He got shot in his head as he closed the door to where we got in.

2. Then Zaeed got a bullet in his stomach, as he was leading the fireteam in the second bout (He lead both).

(Jacob safely escorted the Normandy 2 team back to the ship.)

For the finale, I lost Grunt, the Krogan, to one of the many swarms of insects, which carried him away from my main team (me, Miranda and Grunt).Grunt was genetically tailord in a tank, and had no personality, and was a good death.

I also lost Mordin and Jack from the other fireteam. Jack also served. as the biotic shelter in the caves. Jack was a good death, no family etc and messed up mind.

Mordin was the only sad death, research costs went up by 50 % after he went away.

So, I lost Thane, Zaeed, Grunt, Mordin and Jack.
