Sorry, have been trying to find the 'search posts' option for a while and have not located, so if there is already a similar post like this--could you please move this topic?

I read up recently that Jowan was orignally going to be another party member? Is this true? Wonder why he got removed, I kind of liked his backstory and I grew to like the character as well. Or am I the only one? Maybe Bioware should release a download one day that allows him to join your party--I was so sure that he was going to join me after:

SPOILER
I controlled him in the Fade to save Connor and had to decide his fate, classic party joining to me?

What does everyone else think?

From what I've heard, he was initially going to be able to be put through the Joining, but they decided he "wasn't sufficiently different from the other mages". (This in a game which has two two-handed-weapon warriors as companions...)

Frankly, I'd just like it if he didn't simply drop off a cliff after being sent off to the Circle - go back to the tower after he's sent there, and you don't even get the option to ask.

I believe I read that Gaider said he was too whiny and that there would have to be a massive remake of Jowan just to fit.

I believe Gaider is right. It was tolerable at first, but the further it got into the game, the more that whining grated on my nerves.

It would've been nice to have a male mage companion to choose though.

I'm kinda glad we didn't get the whiny little git as a companion. Image IPB

Edit: removed spoilers.

I don't understand why the hate for Jowan. He might whine a lot, that's true, but he would possibly be one of the best mages, given the better spec, as well as he'd also have a quest, I guess, to save Lily from maker-knows where. If he's sent back to the circle, it's pretty clear he'd be killed on sight. It's not like they will risk another abomination spree because of all this, so it's almost kinder to execute him. But the First Enchanter says it all : if it was his choice, things could have gone differently. I say, let the chantry burn down. They are useless anyway.

I've seen whinier characters >_>
I think he could of just had a hardening option like leliana and Alistair to fix his whiny nature.
Then just grant him a power of greyskull/moment of awesome and vala good bye whiny Jowan and hello tough hard as nails blood mage jowan.

Seriously after Wynees callus comment I would happy to be rid of her >_>

For those interested, here's a link to the thread confirning Jowan was considered for full party membership: http://social.biowar...250603/3#255320. Beware - the link is to a thread in the spoiler forum, so don't follow it if you don't want to risk spoilers.

I guess you could toughen him up as the PC, somehow. I don't dislike Jowan, heck, I even felt sorry for him multiple times, but the tone of voice he invariably uses. Ouch, headache time.

He did screw my mage PC over with his quest, but she understood him. Rasafrassin' Chantry!

I kind of liked his sense of humour. I know he was whiny, but it didn't grate on me. I don't know, I kind of liked the fact he wasn't perfect. As in, his character had potential for a lot of growth. Yeah, I want to know what happend to him as well. That irked me somewhat. I tried so hard to get him released.

I would've loved it if Jowan were to be a party member, but Gaider is dead on about having to remake him to be more than nuisance to the party.

All they'd have to do in terms of remaking him would be to take away most of the selfish whining and substitute it for some subtle self-deprecation and actual attachment to his supposed 'friend', ala Leske and Gorim.

I thought he did a pretty good job in the Mage origin, intresting enough, tragic, and a guy you felt for. But I COULD NOT put up with him as he was in the origin for the entire game.

But I will agree he certainly had room to grow. An evil bad a** Jowan would have been pretty damn cool. From whiney brat to deadly blood mage.

In the end he could of sucked just as easily as he could have been cool. And as someone pointed out with 5 warrior type companions, two-two handed no less, I can't say I wouldn't have liked to see another mage companion, considering Morrigan's specilization was useless and Wynee didn't intrest me all that much.

People go on about the whinging but isn't Morrigan selfish at first? Sten also actullay (well not selfish but rude to you), but they change. I think that may be Jowan's appeal actullay, the fact his character changes (would change) through the game. Perfect characters are boring.

I thought you would go on a quest to release Lily too (dunno if you do later? Haven't got that far?)

I agree he had nowhere to go growth wise. It would've been like Casavir in NWN2. "Ollllld Owwwwwl Wellll." *sighs*

I think we got just the right amount of him as is.

Would've been interesting to have Jowan recruitable into the party, in my opinion. I could definitely see the hardening option with him, with a sidequest to Aeonar worked into it.

But as it is, I'm fine with Jowan not being a companion either.

It was his voice alone that grated on my nerves He had a whiney personality coupled with a high pitched whiney voice. As opposed to morrigan who sounds hawt!

Why in the world do you think that? He had considerable growing potential. Just in the hour or two you know him he goes from whiney girly boy to taking out like 5 templers and a arch-mage. Watching him slowly go over to the dark side could have worked out pretty well.

All the other (counts of fingers, five girls) I play it with like his voice, but they mostly find it funny. I like the voice actors voice, when its being whingy or otherwise *shrug* its...distinctive, without having a accent like the other characters. No offense, I like accents but when everyone has them, it isn't so special.

I kinda got a feeling when I played the game that Jowan was going to join the party. I was a bit disappointed that he dident, yes he was kinda whiny and did alot of stupid **** but bringing him along as dark spawn bait would have helped him redeem himself if that was truly what he wished.

If i could have had my choice of blood mage i would have chosen (edited out since we are in no spoiler land) later in the game...   <3 Jowan would have seemed like you'd need to make him think casting one of his spells was ok to do, " It's ok Jowan, just suck a lil' bit of life out of me and send it flying at that genlock - seriously, look at my health bar, I'm fine!" His voice was unique, but it was his backtracking and guilt that was not party-ready in my opinion. Poor Jowan. lol

I disliked Jowan, not just his whining, but he fails unbelievably as a friend. I could connect with the characters of all other origins just fine, but he's as flat as a concrete floor.

I actually kind of wish Jowan were a potential party member, just because of how tragic he was in the origin story, how much room for growth he had, and how much obvious adventuring potential he brought to the table. I actually liked the fact that the game had a blood mage portrayed remotely sympathetically, and I too would've liked to bust his gal out of Aeonar.
