It seems that...all the squadmates we have in ME2...probably won't be squadmates in ME3 at all. I say this because, well, obviously each one of them has a chance of dying, making it impossible to have them as squadmembers....this makes me sad

I'm sure some of the ME2 squad will be available in ME3 provided they survive. I doubt Bioware would make ME2 love interests a minor part if ME3 is in fact the finale.

Itll probably be like ME1--->ME2, some of them will return as Squadmates (if they survived), and the rest (if they survived) will have cameos. My guess is that Miranda, Grunt and Mordin will carry over into 3.

The thing is...how can they? How will they put them in if, for instance, somebody had half their team die in the suicide mission, or more?

I think the Devs are gonna explode with all the choices with squadmates..... there were what six in the original ME? Eithe 10 or 11 in ME2
That's....yeah... 16/17 people you have to tweak, depending if they all lived... died... or anywhere in between, plus Shepard

The thing is, Garrus and Tali were guaranteed alive at the end of ME1...that's why it was suitable for Bioware to put them in. However now, all your squadmates have the potential to die in ME2...so for example, you think Miranda, Grunt, and Mordin will return...well what if they died on the suicide mission?

You raise a valid point. I think Mass Effect 3 will be Dragon Age in space. Rally the Galaxy against the Reapers. Hell, even Shepard may die (though there is that handy dandy Lazarus vat that's still operational). At least we know for sure certain ME1 characters are still alive. Liara can save the day! Right? Lol, one good character development twist deserves another.

Since everyone is capable of dying with the exception of Joker and EDI, they'll probably have reduced roles... same thing happened with the first game.

This is what I fear....which really sucks because...I've grown really attached to all these characters...only to be shot down again and only seeing them briefly in ME3....

It's not the case.
It all depends on the default Shepard they choose for ME3. If he has certain characters dead, they'll most likely be reduced to cameos.
But honestly, I think one or maybe two of them will be squadmates. Miranda and Mordin, the former is a hard to kill ****, and a strong story element (although somewhat boring for me, so I'd possibly replace her with Jack) the latter is already a fan favorite. Hey, everyone loves Mordin, don't we?
Thane... he'll probably be dead by the time we start the story, they made it easy to write him out.
But anyways, the story made great emphasis on these characters. Fact two: The strongest element of any BioWare games (apart from the world built up) are the characters. It would be way too cheap to wite them all out in another Normandy explosion.
And why does it depend on new players (in other words: ME3 default Shepard?)
The people who played the game will keep and import saves where all/most characters are alive. So that's it, it all depends on default Shep. Some of them will carry over, I'm sure of it.
The others... cameos maybe, or -as I hope- temporary squad members for some special, one-or-two hour missions. Well, cameos are more likely.

Sadly I believe this is gonna be the case. While it was interesting feature and feel of risk that people could die, it just made these squadmates you came to love.... Well just be for one game. Espically since they ALL can die.
I think bioware will do either a few things. Kinda make the game a 'canon' thing where others will be around and if they died in your game they are just 'popped' out.
Bioware will spend a lot of time and resources into making all the characters there to be played. EVEN IF they died. As in they won't be in the game if they died for you, but the game still has them mapped to be a big part of the game if they survived(Which would be a huge undertaking)
Or they will do what they did with ME1 to ME2. We'll be meeting a whole other crew.
