Something I'm just curious about...

When you see Kaiden/Ashley on the colony, before you show up, he or she is paralyzed by one of the collector's little bugs.  Yet, after you progress to the appropriate point in the mission he or she shows up to talk to you, as if nothing had happened, despite like all of the other colonists being captured and taken away.  So my question is... how did Kaiden/Ashley get unparalyzed?

Discuss!

I asked this before, people came to the conclusion that because of Shepard's arrival they wanted to wrap things up quick and left a few colonists behind and the paralyse effect wore off.

i was always wondering about this.

it seems a little weird though that they wouldn't take the virmire survivor, i mean that seems like it would be a huge blow to shepard.

Look around the colony as you are fighting, you will see that they left alot of people behind, because they where in a rush. Hell they barly got away as it is. Also you have to remember Ash's armor has some time of medical feature. So het getting out of paralyze is not that farfeched.

Its a shoort term paralisation....so once the collectors left without them...it eventually wore off.

There is no good explanation. Even you teammates notice that everyone has been in statis for a considerable ammount of time. Also note that only Ash/Kaedon are the only colonist that woke up, that person and the mechanic are the only two that see you off. Additionally Ash at least is completely out of character and refers to you as a god, that sounds like scared reaper talk.

The swarm left with the Collectors... so nothing left to keep them in Stasis.

If you read the mission briefing during the end, Cerberus tells you that the Collectors made off with only 1/3rd of the colonists from Horizon. As for getting unparalyzed I would guess that the Collector ship leaving unparalyzed them. That would mean that the energy to keep the colonists in stasis was coming from the ship itself. As for Kaiden showing up, it was stated that the colonists are fully aware in stasis so he heard all the sounds of battle, shouting, everything. Even if he hadn't heard Shepard's name the sounds of battle would have been his first destination after he got unfrozen.

Ah yes "plot hole" what people on this board keep on saying even when it's not. We have dismissed that claim.

The fact that the paralyzation wore off isn't a plot hole, but the fact that the person ten feet away from them was captured (Lilith) while they, the person the Collectors came to Horizon for, were somehow missed, is.

Once the collectors left, it wore off. I don't see the issue here.

I think it was a "bit" (stress bit!) of a plot-hole. Nothing story breaking, though.

P.S.

When I read the topic, I thought it was like something a guy would say to "that" girl in college.

"A plot hole, or plothole, is a gap or inconsistency in a storyline that goes against the flow of logic established by the story's plot, or constitutes a blatant omission of relevant information regarding the plot. These include such things as unlikely behaviour or actions of characters, illogical or impossible events, events happening for no apparent reason, or statements/events that contradict earlier events in the storyline."

How do you know how long the paralyzation lasts?  We walked across several people already paralyzed that weren't captured.  We can assume they also missed Kaidan/Ashley.  Why, we have no idea.  So we can't completely call that a plot hole since there are others, but since it's unexplained, it's strongly in that category.

We can also call it a plot hole that they even had a meeting with Shepard, since they were paralyzed.  Are there any after effects?  How long were they paralyzed for?  Is the paralysis only muscle based (clearly), or also neurological?  If the Collectors need time to pick up people, one would assume the seeker swarms would paralyze the people to be collected for the duration they're on the planet to harvest.  Does leaving the planet stop the paralysis?  We need "relevant information regarding the plot", and the fact that we don't know how long someone being paralyzed lasts, or why people are unparalyzed when they leave the planet, makes it a plot hole.  Kaidan/Ashley just had to mention "I was attacked by a bug, but woke up seeing the ship leaving for orbit."

If there is an alien device, magic or future-technology, it needs to be explained.

There are at least a dozen other plot holes in this game.  If you can't see them, you're blind.

Remember the biotic 'Stasis' ability from Mass Effect? That's pretty much exactly what this stasis field looked like. As soon as the Collector ship and the seeker swarms left, the power source behind the stasis field went away, releasing everyone from stasis. We don't need to be told that this triggers the release from stasis, since it is patently obvious that it did so.

As for why Ash/Kaidan was left behind while others relatively nearby were taken, first note that Lilith wasn't that close - she managed to run a good thirty to fifty feet - and then notice that they didn't seem to be doing a careful, organized sweep, they seemed to be wandering around and collecting people seemingly at random (or perhaps according to some other metric as to which ones to collect first).

Either way it is clearly stated that a large number of colonists did survive - it wasn't just Ash/Kaidan and the one other guy. We didn't see them on screen, but it's stated in the mission briefing and we even get an email from one of them talking about what the colony is like now with so many people missing. Presumably the one military person managed to collect themselves and head to the center of what was going on faster than everyone else.

I'm still more concerned about that wall that suddenly appears when you examine that dead husk. I must have stared at that thing for a minute, like, "Wait... that wasn't there before, was it? Guys, do you remember that being there?"

Actually that would be a good plot twist.
