Toolset lists VA in the character files.

Redcliffe desire demon for example is voiced by Kath Soucie known for many things but mostly in games from BG2 Aerie^ She also voices Allison (the traps subquest in lothering.)

but the desire demon sounds SO MUCH better than Aerie

dear lord Aeries voice acting made my ears bleed (as did her character in general)

Oh I can still hear abit of aerie, I kinda of guessed before viewing in toolset. Chaotic Evil Aerie..maybe Bann teagan should've been voiced by Jim cummings for some irony.
"must protect my witch" Posted Image too bad he got such a dull role in the human noble origin.

I was really disappointed about walking around Orzammar with no dwarf doing a single comment about the golem freely walking with me.

But as other said, he has some major role in the deep roads. After all, there is where she "born".

Well, true, but the Shaper will comment if the PC choses the dialogue option "Like this golem?"
Love Shale's response

BTW, there's an interesting nugget of dialogue in camp, after the Shale questline in Orzammar / Deep Roads is finished: "... I am a golem now; I have no gender..." (I think it was in first person; maybe it was in the third.) So, seems neither "he" nor "she" is the appropriate personal pronoun, but rather "it."

"For example, if Shale is the Warden's champion at the Landsmeet, Loghain says, "I think the odds might be slightly in -his- favor at a test of strength.""

I was very surprised when I discovered Shale was female, and I think that was the developers' intention. I mean... after you discover it in the game, you get a choice of a dialogue option expressing surprise that Shale was a woman. Come on.

Yep, I agree. I think the developers *intended* that there be an element of surprise, even if it is based on our own preconceptions and stereotypes. As a footnote, my 11 year-old daughter happened to be watching as I was playing the other day. In an off-hand comment, I referred to Shale as "she," and, guess what? My daughter objected. An 11 year old girl *also* assumed Shale was male! When I asked her about it, she said, "because of the way he's dressed." Go figure.

Making it all the more ironic that she is calling you "it" while you are calling it "she."  Or something!

You can also take Shale back to Caridin's Cross after you've finished up the main questline and, assuming you've completed the necessary dialogue, the rest of her quest will trigger.

I wasn't. Several of her in-camp dialogues kinda let the cat out of the bag.

Honestly, I could tell Shale was female after the first in-camp conversation. It's the conversation about equipping Shale with the crystals. Shale asks if they make It look too wide.

You have to admit: Shale *does* bear a striking resemblance to the Thing, of Fantastic Four fame.

Oh, and Shale is not...

Ugh.

Someone's about to do Shale's quest, and you go and say that just to be a dick. Some ****ing people... >_<

As others have already stated this wasn't really a spoiler.  As soon as you talk to Shale it's pretty apparent she has female tendencies.  When you give her new crystals she asks if they're slimming, and you lose approval if you don't tell her that they make her look thinner.  Further she asks you to collect more because she wants to "sparkle from head to toe."  And to add insult to injury (the injury being your overwhelming stupidity), Shale prefers gemstones as gifts.  So basically she likes to look thinner than she actually is, wants to "sparkle" and likes to collect diamonds.  How many males have you met that fit that description that weren't homosexuals?

As for the voice, I'd always assumed she was voiced by a female.  The voice actor sounds like a obese female with a smoking problem.

Interesting thoughts, nuculerman! You're absolutely right: Stereoptypes and preconceptions can operate at all levels when we interpret an ambiguous stimulus - including what we conclude are typical female (or male) behaviors and attitudes. :)
