This build is for those who likes to play around with crowd control and evil Dots and trust me it's very effective and great funPosted Image

Spells worth taking:

Of course you wanna take all 4 spells in Blood magic line and Staff focus + Arcane mastery for that extra damage.

Animate Dead. Nice little helper to join the party. Walking bomb and Virulent walking bomb, Incredible damage on clustered mobs but use em wisely if you play on Nightmare setting cause they can easily wipe your group aswell.

Mind Blast. Nice protection when mobs gang up on you. Crushing prison. Awesome damage and control.

Miasma. Good protection. Paralyze and mass paralyze. Gives awesome control over the battelfield and are some of my favourite spells along with Blood wound and Blood control.

you will have more points to spend on spells after getting these and they can be spend on whatever you like but personally I pretty much only use these spells. As for 2nd specialization I take Spirit Healer mainly for the extra stats but Revival can be handy if Wynne should die or if you dont want have her in you your party.

Stats worth taking:

Pretty easy, all you wanna do is pump up Magic and Constitution as much possible. 16 Cunning if you want to learn Stealing etc. (remember you get 5 cunning from The Fade)

Gear worth getting:

Robes of Avernus or Blood Ring a must have ofc. After the friendly replies I did some testing myself and they dont stack so only one of em is needed.
Reaper's vestment. I suggest you use the Key to the city ring along with Robes of Avernus untill you can afford this robe, then use it with Blood Ring.
Staff of the Magister Lord.
Black hand gauntlets (+20% spirit damage) Spirit damage is your main damage source
Lifedrinker Amulet or Blood-Gorged amulet.
Lifegiver ring. gives some nice extra health.

As for companions, any is doable but I personally prefer to make Allistar my tank and have Wynne as my healer and group buffer.

One last note. This build is not for those who like to spam spells insanely unless you like dying Posted Image

I hope you will as much fun with this build as I have and good luck with it.

I don't think that robes of avernus and blood ring stack, though i only did a quick 2 minute test.

No they don't stack, you only need one. But it is useful to have both if you have more than 1 blood mage in your party.

I'd add that the mage line only gives 5 magic. Arcane shield isn't bad, and staff mastery is decent if you're not into spamming spells. Using blood magic and healing you can cast pretty much non-stop, though, so I'm not really sure it's worth ever using your staff.

I had a similar set up as this but really, the spells you choose dont matter much since you'll have Blood Wound and everything goes downhill for the enemies after that! My favorite combination was Blood Wound and then Grease+Fireball. Quick painful deaths! And then I had Cone of Cold because it's easy to draw a lot of threat with high power spells so I freeze them when they come for me and Alistair and the rest of the team picks them apart. I'd also cast Virulent Walking Bomb on one enemy in the crowd to blow them all up!

I had got my magic up to 80 and constitution at 66 making my Blood Mage difficult to kill and with that much constitution, spells hardly cost anything to cast. And then, I'd have Leliana learn Ranger not only for the melee support but to syphon life from them if I needed to. BM is definitely one of my favorite specializations. Lots of fun!

Noticed you didn't/forgot to mention your belt, I assume you're using Andruil's Blessing, though.

My current blood mage is actually using the Sash of Forbidden Secrets from the Golem DLC as the 'improve blood magic' item (the cash from the cudgel bought me Staff of the Magister Lords and the Spellward) while the Vestments of the Seer from the Witch Hunt DLC is her robe.

I prefer Reaper's Vestments to Avernus' Robe for the better stats and Spellward is also nice, I use the blood ring for my blood magic boost, other than that my BM is the same. I did a second BM playthrough, but took arcane warrior as my second spec and solod nightmare, it was a fun challenge...well except for the high dragon, soloing dragons is kinda rough no matter the class.
