Probably nowhere new high I'd assumed. I had a P4 with an overclocked 9800...and it ran a bit over medium settings. go to canurunit.com

Yes you can. Although a multi core would probably help better.

I am running an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ at only 3.0 overclocked with 2gigs RAM on a 9800gtx w/512ram, and I run Full HIGH settings (I use a special HIGH variant texture pack. Much better skin tones at a fraction of memory usage.) at 1920x1080 for 12 hours at a time without so much as a hiccup.

Although I am a bit of a modding/tweaking/optimizing system freak. I probably couldnt do it without knowing a few 'tricks' that I've picked up over the years.

But yeah, you should be able to get along just fine if you make sure to take the time to shut down all programs and services that you don't need running, including and especially anti-virus and superfetch in win 7 and vista.

And I must note that there is alot of arguments about Superfetch and Prefetch in windows.

If you pretty much only use your machine for gaming like I do, then Superfetch is wasting your memory and forcing I/O on your hard disk, which is a big no no in the gaming world.

There is also a misconception about 'memory' consumption in vista and 7.

Reality is that the more memory you are using, then the better, faster, smoother, stabler, more rewarding your pc experience will be. There are exceptions to every rule obviously, but in the end, Windows 7 will treat you much nicer without Superfetch enabled unless you are constantly opening and closing bunches of programs and web pages movies music etc. It learns to 'preload' that information into your memory so that when you want it, it's pretty much gonna load fast as hell.
