FIrst the disclaimer:  Long time Bioware fan here, Baldurs Gate owned my soul.  My favorite genre ever.  I've played a total of two, thats right two, shooters to the end.  Halo I and Half Life.

That said, why are so many longtimers (Bioware fans) demanding that Bioware not try and advance the science they basically invented, attempting to draw in more fans who would otherwise pass.  The more people they can draw in, the higher thier production values can be.  You understand that right?  The better they do with sales, the more the big wigs stay out of thier business and let them keep rockin on.

I mean even if you think they went a bit too far, or shouldn't have done this or that thing, it still has a Bioware games soul, and beauty's on the inside right? :)

I read about the changes.  It's gonna be more shootery.  Ok, I can accept the fact I can't spec dominate anymore, that my kids are gonna out LEET me now in combat.  I can lower the difficulty if I need to, but so far normal is just fine for me.  Hmm they are adding ammo, ok, i have to push X now more often, and WALK over some shinys, not bend down and pick up, but just WALK over them.  Not sure I needed that, but if the action fans like it, sure doesn't ruin my day.

Another gripe I've heard.  "The story's not as good" or "doesn't draw me in".  Thats because it's not all brand new.  You know the universe now, that was all crazy and new in ME1.  You knew nothing of how things worked and why things were in the first game, it was SO much information.  I remember just marveling at all the codex entries and how fleshed out everything was.  But you know all that now, you played the first one.

I think it's a testament to the first game that some people became so invested in the first crew that all they wanted was an expansion pack.  Change nothing, just make it bigger.  Bioware aint gonna abandon the longtimers.  Maybe what happens is they get more fans willing to try the more "PURE" games after falling in love with this one.

Bioware's been kicking tail and taking names for a long time.  I think they deserve the right to try and advance the genre (and yes, that means attracting more fans) by taking a few risks.  As well as they listened to the critisism of the first, they'll listen now too.  I myself would like a bit more of a happy medium on inventory and loot and such.  But I'm not complaining a bit about them adding some tension and polish to combat.  And again, I dont play shooters.

Here's a critique of my own to wrap it up.  Not a huge fan of the flying from planet to planet.  Not because it's there, but because it needs more polish.  It feels like an inferior version of Asteroids, with no boulders to evade.  I always looked at the galaxy map as a MAP, a place to plot my course.  I'd be fine with it if it was a bit more cinematic or something I guess.  But it doesn't make the game garbage...
